View Full Version : wtd - integrated amplifier AR A60 etc
Hi,
looking for an integrated amplifier.
Something along the lines of vintage a&r a60 or similar.
Possibly a Trio, etc.
Possibly an older nad or quad.
Preferably serviced/recapped where necessary.
I fancy building a vintage system with speakers such as MS pageant 2 speakers.
Should be in nice condition, if it has been recapped then great.
Price wise, under £100.
Thanks

Strip the black paint off and varnish, should look OK:

One of my A60's was a black painted one, the middle one in the pic below:

Thanks for the link.
Not sure i want to get into refurbishing one.
But yours looks very nice.
So....still looking for an amplifier to go with MS pageant 2 speakers.

Shame, the one linked to on ebay, is a late model, they are usually need nothing doing to them electrically.

Unfortunately it is also collection only/a long way away and i don't drive.
How does one identify a late model?

Look at my picture, the top one is a late model, identifying features:
1/ different knobs
2/ no nut around the headphone socket
3/ LED behind front panel, not sticking through.
3/ CD button instead of Aux
there are some other differences as well.

Thanks, much appreciated.

Forgot to mention, late model has centre detent on bass, treble and balance controls, I find quite nice. My opinion is that the controls are of better quality than early models.
Certainly, a late model will have an IC for the phono stage, it is very much quieter in terms of his than early model, although I find the early models quite acceptable.
Very early models might have DIN loudspeaker connectors instead of the usual 4mm binding posts/sockets.

The wooden cabinet comes off very easily, if you are not into stripping and varnishing, one could just respray the black with a car touch up.
Open to suggestions.
Will go up to 150.
Amplifier for ms pareant 2 speakers.
I'd go for a creek 4040 or 4140. Amps I could happily live with as they always satisfy. They are usually pretty plentiful on EBay so you should be able to choose a good example.
Will now include
Marantz pm4
Valve amp up to around the 400 mark
Eg wad mel84
AUdio innovations
Or could stretch a little further for a jsoundlab 300b.
Open to suggestions
Sorted now thank you.
As a complete about face, a vintage Marantz 2215b is on the way.
That was the last xmas present sorted (or me).
