Distorting bass driver on Castle Howard S2's

I bought these a couple of months ago and lovely sounding things they are too.

Last night i hooked up a large Sony N77 and drove them for a while at moderate to loud volume.

One of the 6" doped paper drivers is now distorting on certain tracks and frequencies.

The rubber surrounds look ok and there's no noticable rip or sagging to the the cone, if i push the cone slightly the distortion disappears.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

DC on outputs of amp? Overdriven? Sure an expert will sort you out. Sorry to hear about it.

Those in-house Castle bass drivers are notorious for failing rubbing etc...

I had some Castle Chester’s with the same problem.

I’d steer clear of Castle speakers, a shame really as they do sound good when functional.

Possibly the coil binding in the magnet gap.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I've changed the amp now but i guess the damage is done.

If i was overdriving them would would it only affect one driver on one speaker?......clearly no expert here!!
