The Tannoy DC6es in my study start to drop off at around 50hz, I'm looking for a modestly priced sub that will fill in from about 30-35hz.

Budget about £100-150. Cosmetic condition more or less irrelevant. Single RCA input is fine I don't need high level.

Anyone got something kicking around?

Are you sure single RCA is ok, do you have an AV amp or a processor that will combine a stereo bass signal into a mono? If not and you take L or R out, you risk an odd tonal balance on some recordings eg Kind of Blue where the bass is on one side IIRC

I have a 'mix down to mono' reverse splitter, impedance matched, that Nick Gorham made for me in my days playing with a dedicated mono system. I'll use the output from the second set of output sockets on the Pass B1, combine them and send them down to the sub. Of course if it requires stereo input that it then mixes down itself, I can run stereo sub cables.

I know this is more than your budget Tom but have you seen this?

Thanks James yes I did see it but it's going in a study setup where the Class D power amp was £100, Pass B1 pre another couple of hundred, and around the same again for the little Tannoys. I can't justify a sub that cost the same as the rest of the system.

I had an MJ Acoustics sub which was pretty good

They can be picked up for about £70

Yes the MJ acoustics ref something I had was brilliant, compact and less than £100 used.

Funnily enough I can actually use ebay search ... but I wouldn't be looking to patiently wait six days till an auction ends then drive 80 miles each way to pick one up.

I was asking here if anyone had anything for sale themselves within budget.

Don't mind Tom, Phil.

I have a Wilmslow Audio sub with a big ‘Volt’ driver in my garage. I think it’s a sealed box design. The plate amplifier is separate from the enclosure. It’s not been used for a few years. I will take some pictures tomorrow if it’s of any interest.

That should be interesting, Volt drivers are excellent!

I picked up a nice Canton sub on the bay. Even got postage. They do come up. This one is quite good. Worth looking for. Good German brand

Ah, so it's a real word?

Right, so it is ....

adjective, Informal.
1. overparticular; fussy.
2. snobbish or having the aloof attitude of a snob.
3. requiring painstaking care.

Certainly 1 and 3. :lolsign:

I intended to mean something along the lines of male PMT. :D

But why are you using the American spelling of the perfectly acceptable word pernickety? Honestly the American word is so low class. I like to take care of things like this you know. :)

I picked up two secondhand REL Quakes for way less than the new price of one. Great wee discreet subs. One is a pain but two are very worthwhile.
