In a different thread I've just announced that I have ordered the object of my dream: a Dynavector DV 507-II pickup arm. I can trace this desire back to 1976 when I was 18 and invited over to my friend's house to install one (it was then a DV-501 model I believe) on a three-post Micro Seiki direct drive turntable. Wow, from the moment I opened the box to first dropping the stylus of the mounted Supex cartridge onto vinyl, I just knew that one day I had to have one. The fact that it sounded so good was a bonus!

So what is your object of desire and how long have you wanted one? Did you finally achieve your goal or do you anticipate having it one day? Include pics please!
My object of desire cost around £8K in the early 80's when I first saw it in the flesh. Which is around £26K now, if they still made it, which they don't. I lusted after it for many years, never ever believing that I would one day own one for myself.
And yes, I achieved my dream a few years ago thanks to BBC Northern Ireland. :) Perfect mechanical condition & new heads.

That looks lovely Kris! I've no idea what it is though, along with Barry. There's much I'd like but nothing I can't live without. If I do hanker after things it's those that are just out of my pocket's way, rather than things that are a lottery win away. A Technics RS-1520 would be nice, or a Nakamichi Dragon - still the best tape deck for playback if you've a lot of tapes recorded on a lot of different machines... and for lottery money I'd like a fully spec'd EMT turntable... I'll keep buying the tickets :)

How did you manage that ? Getting anything out of them is like getting blood from a stone. I buy the odd tape from an engineer in NI BBC but that's it, any thing else must be under the radar. Ulster Orchestra guys do quite well..or so I am led to believe.

The biggest bugger of a 2-way speaker you will ever see - 40kg each!!
Most gutting thing is that I owned a s/h pair for about a year but had to sell them to fund a house purchase...
Worse still, they were every bit as good as you might expect them to be.

But apart from the fact that I couldn't afford the house to sensibly put them in, there is the little matter of hundreds of £k for the speakers ... then there's the amps to drive them ... nope, an unobtainable dream, so that's kind of pointless.
More realistically (?), a pair of these might well do just dandy ....

I've heard smaller MBL Radialstrahler speakers at Shows - far & away the best speakers I have ever heard. They really are my dream speakers.
..... They'd look really cool alongside my Chord amp!

That's an understatement...
Everything about them was literally Extrema :eyebrows:
A 2-way which lacked nothing in bass output, volume or dynamics. Deeper than they were tall and with a stands that weighed over 60kg EACH!
Electro-magnetically damped passive radiator at the back which could be fine tuned. And the drivers! Those tweeters are Dynaudio Esotar T330Ds, which used to be over £350 each to buy (I once had a pair in one of my own early home-brew efforts).
Only negative was the looks, which were a bit of an acquired taste....

I can't say I'm currently into mugs eyeful audio gear. I'm delighted with what I have right now.
If I had huge amounts of money to spend on audio I really can't think right now what I'd have - some huge PMC's or ATC's actively driven perhaps, a top end NAS turntable definitely and one of those beautifully made and finished preamps of whatever persuasion that could be sorted to the highest standards (and the Sony ES models (900) were supposed to be pretty darned good as standard)..
I'd probably end up with a museum of vintage audio...

If I had the cash I'd still keep it simple but would buy a VPI Scoutmaster. Other than that I'm OK with what I have and even though I'm having issues with my CD player, it's only digital and so not that important.
Used to have a VPI super scoutmaster; great TT but there better cost to perfomance stuff around Vic Salvation is very special and very reasonable and would eat my old Super scout for breakfeast

Is that an amplifier or something I can see *inside* the bass horn? What are they, anyway? I think I'd need a bigger house.

In the middle is the Air partner bass bin and to the sides are the matching Tone scout's , there are also a nice pair of Auditorium's , all designed and made by Kevin Scott (Living Voice) .
The Tone scout and Air partner speaker system was about £30,000 ' yikes i hear you say but they are quite extraordinary and you can drive them with a 4 watt SET no probs .
The Tone Scout can also be used on their own .
BTW i have sat on that sofa ' its very comfy and it needs to be ' when i asked Kevin how much are those !

I've always wanted a Tri-Planar tonearm. Its just the thought of having something that is genuinely put together with watchmaker like precision. Daft to get one I really need to get my vinyl collection much larger before I spend money on such things!
Paul, the Triplanar would have been my second choice arm. However, the Dyna won my heart :)

Wasn't the Scout/Air Partner system inspired by an old (Vitavox?) P/A installed in a factory canteen, (Vauxhall in Luton maybe?).
I could, of course, have been dreaming:).

any of these would put a smile on my face (and a frown on hannahs) had a demo of the alphas at UHES they didnt sound that loud but i think they probably were ... the door to the bathroom was moving with the bass :eyebrows:

I have mine,It took me along time to find and I had to use the headband from a different color modle of the next year and one of the ear cups has a crack around where the headstrap mounted.So I had to repair with JB weld.I used better cable Kimber PPJ and added a jack to make the cord removeable.When I was a kid my Fathers stereo was where I spent all my time and liveing near a lake where most people where retired I spent menny hours listning to music.I would get home from school at 3:00pm and go straight to the stereo.till 8:00pm I could listen from the KLH modle six speakers but after that the headphones came into action.We had a great Rock& Roll station KZAP and at night I loved the collage stations and once and awhile pirate punk stations till I would fall asleep in the chair.I nearly lived in the den in those years. I would listen all weekend long too and at school people would talk about music and I would mention things like Dr.Demento or Tom Waits and they would have no clue.I used to play spin the dial and would listen to what ever station it was closest to for an hour no matter what.Some times I would switch to AM and wright down the DX stations in a ring binder,some times when conditions where right I got Calvery Canada.And on the 1110 in LA was Wolfman Jack till 2:00am.They are well known for a massive sound stage and no lack of bass but more over they take me back more than 20 years.The pair I had got broken beond repair when I was 25.And being they where not common and even less available on the west coast it took years to replace them with a suitable pair.So getting a working pair was a dream now fullfilled.
Can you guess what they are ?

And I can tell you that they work wonderfully with a Chord power and a Croft 25pre. Tested the combination last week. ;)
In fact, the Chord power (don't remember the model, a 2x200w I think) is perfect for them. Perfect is the word. :)
That's nice to know. The JBLs were a dream once but I don't think I need look back to them now, although I do like what they do very much.
