It isn't building the rocket that's the issue - it's his denial of a mountain of evidence that the world is round that puts him in the loony category.

If you read the full article he does imply that he has only gone over to the flat earth gang in order to get funding for his rocket.

Good luck with that! Whatever the outcome, when he crashes back to Earth, round or flat, he'll find it is not that soft from a height. He may be pushing boundaries but could well end up pushing daisies. :)

i totally agree with you,its always great when the" little guy sticks it to the man" and those sort of endeavours should always be encouraged and admired.
i think its more to do with the rationale of this guy thats the worry....do we really want someone like this building home made rockets that can be used anyway in a back yard...thin line between madness and genius...seems even more blurrier here:D
of course that's just my point of view/thoughts on the article,certainly cant take away his achievement and dreams....:cool:

Well he is in the Mohave desert, which is fairly large as back yards go. It's big enough that they were happy to detonate atomic weapons there in the 1950s. I've got a photograph somewhere taken on Fremont Street in Las Vegas which shows a mushroom cloud towering over the buildings. Compared to that, what this bloke is doing is pretty safe and sane.

There is this troubling thing called math. I don’t think it would take much of it to prove his little experiment will fail. Perhaps he has raised a million dollars for this project, and only spent $50 thousand on the rocket? And pocketed the rest? Now that would make sense. Much like the Evil Kinevil rocket over the Snake River back in the 70’s, they knew it wouldn’t make the jump, and that it was much safer to parachute to the bottom of the canyon, just publicity to make a million bucks.

Is it a crowdfunding? :) Has he launched yet? You never get the real slant from these articles. There is a fine line between genius and madness.

I was up for the freedom of doing his own thing until the flat Earth proof came up. Sounds like a bit of a nutter but maybe its about publicity and he is having the last laugh with the money raised. You often need an angle for all the conspiracy theorists to get their chequebooks out.

Some people just have a deathwish or need for an adrenaline rush. Ex neighbour of mine started doing the Sulby Straight at 200mph and it eventually took him out.

I get the feeling that the authorities would swoop fast if this was going on in the UK. Still If he has a desert as a back yard and wants to launch himself without harm to others...why not eh :)

The reality is that 2000 feet is not very high at all! I’ve been to the top of Pikes Peak, some 14,110 feet! With the city of Denver at only 5,280 feet down below. That’s a height of approx, 9,000 feet! And from up there it was very obvious that the earth was round, the horizon was very curved, and you could see the edge of the sky in the distance. So a mere 2,000 feet is kinda dumb? Surely there’s a hill that tall someplace near by?
