Yep a good 40 year feud...he had to work for his money after though never regained the success he had in the 60's and 70's...plus bolam blocked the rights to any repeats on the BBC...

I was curious about the reasons for the fall out between Bewes and Bolam.
Most of the obits don't go into details, but got this from the BBC site ...
"In 1975 there was a film spin-off which proved to be the last time the pair worked together. Bolam was famous for guarding his privacy and was furious when Bewes let slip to a newspaper that Bolam's wife, the actress Susan Jameson, was pregnant.
After a fraught phone call the two did not speak to each other again. Bolam was so incensed that he refused to appear on an edition of This Is Your Life, which featured his former acting partner."
Seems a bit OTT, doesn't it.

Hi Jerry ,
I was reading also Bolam didn't like him when filming the show - if asked in the street wheres bob he would reply He's Dead..! Nice.. Bewes was poor in comparison bolam never grated the rights to repeats for years which would earn bewes £4000 per episode...
Damn shame will watch the film of Whatever later...

childish is the word.
I read that Rodney was keen to re-kindle the friendship (!) Somehow I don't think that would have been my approach - still, what do I know?

Yes, very sad, I also liked what ever happend...
Maybe the tension was always there, which made the characters that much more real.
Either way a sad loss, David Cassidy also gone this week.:(
A...
Bolam is about as overrated as they come he'd fit in well at corrie where acting ability is bottom on the list of requirements.

Whilst it is true that he was never in anything that was any good after 'Whatever...' his acting performance in that is absolutely brilliant. Unless he is in fact exactly like Terry Collier and was just playing himself.

You could well be right Macca. That acid wit , he displayed on The Likely Lads , could have well come naturally !
RIP Rodney , Thelma will no doubt be putting him right , up there in the big garden in the sky!!
she's still alive tmk but I guess that wont stop her:eyebrows:
I went to the Royal Exchange theatre in Manchester, years ago now, about 1986, and Thelma was in the audience. She looked exactly the same, same haircut and clothes.

ah your forgetting when the boat comes in.
ah your forgetting when the boat comes in.
I know, I always think that was earlier but it isn't.
He's a good actor he's just mainly been in rubbish. What was that detective crap he was in with Dennis Waterman? That was terrible.
Got the boat comes in on DVD. It's decent. His wife was in it too
New Tricks. Old Crap
That was it. Had to sit through an episode when I was round my mother's house. Just terrible writing, not the actors' fault. They have to eat like the rest of us I suppose.

ive just watched the whole lot on the drama channel,i loved it,the ending was a bit poor though.
Last series was poor tbh. All stocking filler tbh but first 3 were good considering the budget
You should catch him on CBeebies, he flies that teeny airplane like a Battle of Britain ace!
