Just a heads-up, guys.... Went to Ikea in Warrington today, to get a few things mainly for the kitchen, and came across this little folding laptop support:

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/desks/desk-computer-desks/br%C3%A4da-laptop-support-bamboo-veneer-art-30384822/

It's excellent, as the legs will fit into the gaps at the sides of most armchairs (in my case recliner), thereby providing a nice stable and raised flat surface in front of you, to pop your lappy onto, which is much comfier than having it sat directly on top of your lap for long periods of time, thus allowing you to sit in complete comfort whilst typing!

Great, if like me, you use your laptop for hours every day, reducing fatigue accordingly, and for the price it's nicely made too, folding away neatly when not needed... Bargain!

This is what IKEA is very good at. Functional innovation in the everyday home or something like that...

Big, big IKEA fan here. Good functional design from a multinational group that provides value as well as delivering on sustainability, unlike many other mammoth corporations.

Ive got mine on a Target TT2 turntable shelf which is yanked up to the sofa :D. I knew it would come in handy as I consider it too low for turntable use. I get these things powder coated in fashionable colours and they are handy to have about the house. Ive had it since the 1980s and cant bring myself to sell it on

Ive often got the telly on and the laptop infront of me or slightly off to the side. I find it just the right height to lean forward and do some searching and typing. Serious work gets done at a computer desk

That Ikea unit looks ok but Im not sure I would set something up over me. If Im having a tv dinner I balance a tray on my lap.

Hi Martin,

Like the novel use of a turntable shelf! The Ikea item works just fine, plus is also light and can be folded away when not in use, even hung on the wall.

And since you mention 'TV dinners', you can also put a tray (with a plate of food) on top of it, which is just the right height to eat off of! :)
