Rare vinyl

Had an e mail from e.i.l. A local to me record dealer that's sells on eBay, luckily I can visit them when I want something. E mail had a rare record by fantasy, a local band formerly chapel farm, that the record company in their wisdom decided to change to fantasy to market them better I guess. Didn't really work, only sold the one album I know of and although good, wasn't really their style. Anyhow the album which they said they had only seen one other is for sale at £795. I had a look through my records and found my copy.....only to find its scratched right across the b side, bummer.

Yeah a bummer, but it's only worth what someone will pay for it. I don't sell any records and looking at book value some I have are worth £400 + . But it's not how rare something is, it's how desirable it is. :)

If it's really that rare it's probably still worth £100

Rare vinyl does not sell for £100. Collectable records can. Good rare vinyl sells for five times that or more (glad I've got a few :)).

Yeah, have to agree Andy. It is like houses and maybe cars. If there is no buyer at that price it goes home with the owner. Like the TV program Floggit. I am amazed by how many folk think their little trinket is worth a fortune. Sometimes of course,
it is.

e.i.l = Esprit International Ltd. Record dealers of some repute for at least 25 years. They employ people and have a shop.

I agree that their prices are eyewatering, but they would not have prospered and survived in business if people were not paying something close to them.

From personal experience they pay good prices for collectables, grade accurately and guarantee everything they sell.

I agree that their prices are eyewatering, but they would not have prospered and survived in business if people were not paying something close to them.

From personal experience they pay good prices for collectables, grade accurately and guarantee everything they sell.

only had one disappointing buy from them. good fit n finish to their packing too.

My last experience really put me off, I must say ...

I bought a record listed as near mint but turned out to be totally unplayable - not surprising as it had a sticker on the back of the sleeve saying it was a 99p Oxfam lp!!

It was full of visible pressing flaws - nobody had obviously bothered to look at it properly.

My last experience really put me off, I must say ...

Its interesting in that Ive never owned any really expensive vinyl or sought any out. My most valuable album is a first pressing of Unknown Pleasures and I only paid about £45 for it mainly for the textured sleeve

I would quite like some of the Joy Division translucent red records but I dont really go beserk with must have rarer records. Of course there is rare and really rare. I would like some rare records but balk at the price long before its a serious consideration

I just dont get why people want Beatles records(for example) costing hundreds or thousands. Its just not my bag. I see the investment side but wonder if prices have peaked

I like some collectables but rare records isnt my thing even with bands and music I love. Its normally recorded again on other formats and cheaper records.
