I've gone and bought a Shure M55E, due to arrive tomorrow, to go on a sme3009/thorens td150. In the interests of getting the best performance possible-does anyone have a Jico or NOS N55E stylus that they would be prepared to sell for a fair price? Must be able to post to Edinburgh, would prefer to pay via paypal but not essential.
Thanks, Patrick

Cheers for that, will maybe make them an offer. Does anyone know the going price for a NOS?

Just goto JICO I use one on my 55e, then are better build quality than NOS, cheaper and you don't have the worry of buying a used duffer.

well it will fit but no idea how it will sound in comparison to the n55e. That one tracks a bit higher than the original. I would get a jico or go for a sas if rich. The sas is superb.

Patrick, there is a massive thread somewhere on this forum discussing hot-rodding of the 55e if that's what your fancy.

Can't afford a new Jico SAS at the moment, if second hand one came up for a decent price I would certainly go for it. I think my best affordable option new is the Jico N55E Improved but I will wait to see if anything comes up here first. Anyone got a SAS they would like to sell?

Simon You could try an Ed Saunders / Trisha Horn example for about $30

There was a lot of discussion about whether they truly were Ed Saunders stylii about 5 or 6 years ago when Ed retired and some aacrimonious stuff was supposed to have gone on between them which I cannot comment on but maybe others on here can. I have not heard a modern "Ed Saunders" so cannot comment on the quality but its another possible source for a new tip at not a massive amount of money.

Ive a m55 with nos tip and another with a sas. They might go up for sale later if you are still looking then. could always get a cheaper one till a desired one appears on market.

Cheers Grant, keep me posted if you do decide to let them go.

No bother Patrick.. Might be selling all my vinyl stuff in near future as I dont feel not safe with it now lol. getting a bit wobbly due to my hip being knackered. Still it might aide my digital side a little

Sorry to hear about your hip Grant, that must be really difficult for you, hope you are getting the right pain relief for it. Take care.

The listing is for a replacement stylus for the M44-7, so not an elliptical stylus.

Perhaps this would be better? https://shop.mantra-audio.co.uk/acatalog/Shure-N55E-Stylus-Ref-435E-MA0397.html

NOS unused about £50-£75. I would just use a Jico n552 stylus. Their quality is superb, if you really want to make it sing then a Jico SAS n55 but £200! I have one and its stunning.

This is probably the one I would go for.

Cheers James, looks like that's the current plan, $56 is a realistic price if it sounds good. I just don't have enough records to justify spending $211 but will keep an eye out for second hand.

The M55E arrived this afternoon, just been able to set it up and give it a listen over the past hour, sounds great. Early days but much more neutral than the v15 type 2 I've been listening to for the past 18 months. The best £38 I've spent for a while. Suspect it sounds even better with a jico.

That's me now sorted for a stylus- just went ahead and bought a jico n55e improved, £63 (not including VAT), doesn't ship until payment is confirmed via paypal/credit card so could be waiting a couple of weeks? Hopefully worth the investment because at the moment it's feeling expensive!

I think the pound is just going to keeping losing value in the longterm, so why wait?

I have quite a few stylus from Jico - they are a superb company. Don't think you will be disappointed with the improved N55e.

Thanks for your words of encouragement James. How long do they usually take to ship to the UK?
