Just a quickie to say hello.

Have been into "Hi-Fi" for a very long time, although I have had a few years off for good behaviour. I suppose I had better explain.

About 8 years ago I was living on an island, bottom line is I wanted to come back to civilisation so I got on my motorbike and left with an MP3 player in my pocket, I just sold the house and have finally been re-united with my Hi-Fi gear and all my CD's.

My main system was a Quad 33/405, a pair of Tannoy Cheviots (Bought in 1976) and Philips CD101. These have basically been left in a dampish empty house for 8 years.

CD101 hasn't faired well, but the Tannoy's after a re-wax look and sound great, the Quads after having been dried out for a week came on with that reassuring thump (Don't worry I used a cheap pair of speakers and my work mobile phone as a source to test it), but I was left with no real source so I took to Gumtree and found a TEAC CDP1250 as a tester and I realised how much I had missed quality sound.

So I am on the look out for a proper CD player to go with the Quad/Tannoy combo, it needs not only to be a good CD player but also look right with the Quads, currently looking at a Marantz CD6006, all suggestions welcome.

I am sure I will fill in the rest of my stuff in other posts.

That's a bit of a classic system you have there with the Quads and Tannoys. Why not look at Quad CD players? They are good.

I am prepared to look (And listen to anything), when you say Quad CD players are you talking 66/67 or are you talking more modern ones?

I am in flat at the moment with the Quad and Tannoy's having really only been used to test the Quads, the system I am currently using is slightly different, but my longer term plan when I get a house to live in (And house my stuff) will be an amalgam of the two systems as I doubt i will have room for both and why on earth would you own Tannoy's and not use them.

My other system and the one in daily use is really my audio/visual entertainment system, a 65inch 4k Panasonic CX800, Pioneer VSX 323, Xbox One (Will be replaced by an Xbox One X after Xmas) and a pair of Eltax C205. I have given up with surround sound and just gone back to stereo.

The other thing I am in the process of giving up is a "Groove" music pass, as mentioned when I came back to London on my bike, I had an MP3 player and a pair of earplug headphones, so I got into using Groove as I didn't have any CD's or stuff to play them on, I bought the receiver and Eltax and basically hooked them up to the Xbox and have been using that, It was only on getting home with the Quad, Tannoy's and my CD's that I really realised (I knew, honest I knew) how poor the sound really was.

So with the demise of the Groove music pass, my re-discovery of how good the Quad, Tannoy's CD's are and the "Death of CD101" that I am the lookout for a new CD player. I would guess my main system will become the Quad, Tannoy, Xbox One X, Panasonic TV and whatever CD player I find, OK this will mean giving up some of the luxury of using a using the Xbox One's simple media remote control and voice controls via Kinect to do "Everything" but I can square that as the TV's sound is OK for watching basic TV and then turn on the "Hi-Fi" if I want to listen to a CD or watch a film with enhanced sound. I am not a browser of music, when I put on an album I listen to that album.

The Teac although OK, wont sit well with the look I have in mind, so it can go and live with the Pioneer receiver or the Aiwa amp I have sitting around somewhere (Along with a few other bits of gear).

Hence the "Need" for a good sounding but also aesthetically pleasant looking CD player, I would have happily lived with CD101 and although not really dead, just isn't a happy bunny and may need hospitalisation but maybe it was time to modernise this area anyway.

I think I would be happy have a Quad CD 67 in my system, but I am prepared to be open to other suggestions.



As an aside I am going to re-rip all my CD's to FLAC format (Tested this last night) and use these files on OneDrive with Groove as the player on my PC's, phones and for "Occasional" and casual listening using the Xbox. This part is important as my wife also has an Xbox setup and she likes the simplicity of it.

Yes. I was suggesting the older Quad CD players. They are well liked and obviously would not be out of place with the Quad amps.
