has any one had any experience of these...

Yes. My pal Be Yamamura used to make them back in the late 70s for us to sell. You need to be sure that the turntable bearing is up to the job of supporting the extra weight, because many can't.

I have the Puresound Tenuto MkII gunmetal mat on my 301 having upgraded from the lighter weight Mk I version. It makes a very noticeable difference to the sound which I prefer to the stock 301 mat or any other after market mats I have tried.

ok its going on a technics sl 1200 so that shouldnt be a problem, how does it compare to copper

I have not tried a copper mat but the density of copper and gunmetal are similar so would expect similar effect on sound.

Well the tenuto is is on my list of things to go on my SP10. It's a cracking bit of kit BUT very hard to find used.

Bronze I imagine would yield similar results.

Have you got a link to the one you are considering?

In fact if I recall correctly, the original Puresound mat before the Tenuto was a copper one. Presumably Guy found gunmetal to give a better result.

Yes the precursor was copper, the gun metal has less resonance

Lucky you, rare as rocking horse poo, I use a copper mat on my Denon and like it much more than the rubber mat. The platter on the Denon is two piece and damped so don't see the point of a thick rubber mat too. I use record puck I made to stop slipping when cleaning, it's not overly heavy.

Picked one up for £225!!! That half the retail price for a few blemishes.

Ye I heard one at Phonomacs place. Very impressive. Guy is the third person to say it gets a MK2 right up close to a MK3 so I've very excited

They were around £325 a while back but they were 3mm. Now they are 5mm they are up to about £400. Those are the words straight from the horses mouth.

It'll be the last one I buy though.

5mm wow heavy. My copper mat is probably 2mm. Don't know what difference thicker will make on solid metal,I presume less resonance? The SP10 MK3 has a really heavy platter and apparently this gets you closer to that level due to the added weight. I am assured that it will have no negative effect on the motor which I'm pleased about. Obviously lol.

I've never read a negative review and having heard one on an SP10 I can confirm they are too quality. Everything improved.

It's not only about resonance suppression but also speed stability during play. Once that chunk of gun metal plus the already heavy platter get going very little can stop it and certainly nothing on vinyl - so better transients, leading edges etc.

I'll do a write up when I've had it on a while. Hope it's as good as I think it'll be lol

I would disagree to some extent. I see it that the extra mass is driven by the motor continuously and not able to overtake the motor speed and so is more constant.

I reckon we do agree, just worded it differently.

The RRP of the 5mm Tenuto is still £330. It looks a relatively simple thing but it still proves to be quite difficult & expensive to make.

There were seconds of the earlier 3mm version (all gone now) which were defective usually because of blemishes in the material or coating.

The 5mm version presented a different type of defect (warpage post machining on a small proportion) which I hope the next batch will fully resolve. (touch wood) :D

Here are some midway through production.

The earliest mats we produced were the copper Rubato 3mm model (not dissimilar to the Micro CU-180) but it became apparent that the profile chosen could cause issues if a clamp was used. The Tenuto profile & label recess were altered to allow the record to seat correctly with or without a clamp in use.

Thanks for clearing that up Guy, I must admit to using hearsay as the source of the Price. I'll amend my previous posts.

Mine arrive safe and sound and is currently on my SP10. I'm a bit shocked at the difference it's made but will wait until I have lived with it for a bit before I evaluate.

Edit: Can't edit my earlier post but will make sure the prices are accurate on my thread.

I whole heartedly recommend the tenuto for anyone with the SP10 - plus guy is a gent to deal with.
