I'm Ben.
I got into hifi through my Dad, who's always had nice stuff and has been very generous with hand-me-downs to get me and my brother started. He also operates International Rescue Audio Division, ever ready to parachute spare kit to the pair of us if disaster strikes or we're stuck for cables etc. He built cabinets for my brother's sound sytem, and is currently helping me build my new rack.
My system is a bit of a mishmash at the moment as I'm midway through a fairly major upgrade . I've opted to try to get more bang for my buck with second hand kit, so am picking up bits and pieces as they become available - one of my motivations for joining is access to the classifieds.
Currently I have:
Pro-Ject 6.9 w/Ortofon 2M Red
To be replaced with:
Bauer Audio DPS 2 (Once I pick up a tonearm and cart to go with it.)
Naim CD3 (Staying for the time being, as I'm using analogue as my primary source at the moment.)
Pass Labs Aleph ONO
Quad 33 (To be replaced with a Pass Labs Aleph P when I come across one.)
Pass Labs Aleph 3
Acoustic Energy AE120s (Staying for now, although I imagine I'll probably look at upgrading once everything else is sorted.)
Cables are a mixture of eBay bargin bin stuff and few from Dad's box of tricks. Once I know what I need I will be going shopping, probably for new ones so I can audition a few.
Music-wise I enjoy classic rock, new wave/indie, metal of varying flavours, bits of (pre-? and post-) hardcore, post rock, psych, (Particularly some of the 'world' stuff that Now Again have been reissuing.) prog, reggae, (Although my brother is very much the expert there - he has a huge collection of tasty stuff.) odds and ends of hip hop and some very occasional jazz.
