Live At Blues Alley...Eva Cassidy.
Recorded in the late 20's, Henry Thomas... His modern day lovers were likes of Bob Dylan, Taj Mahal, The Lovin' Spoonful, The Grateful Dead, and Canned Heat.. He often accomplanied himself with a quill(a type of zampona)

Henry started recording in the 20's and continued through 9 decades... Also known as Mule, he knew and played with many of the greats of blues including Walter Davis, Roosevelt Sykes and Yank Rachell.

We have to thank Terry Wogan for bringing her to a wider audience. Her early death was a real loss.

used to have that. different cover tho
I have it, and it is an enjoyable spin.
But I would disagree with Adrian that everything John McLaughlin was involved in was great. Some of it is no more than very well played anodyne pap; as is typical of most that is labelled "fusion".

Ah, maybe wrongly I presume you are not a guitar player. JM has not just done fusion, have a listen to the John McLaughlin Trio live at the Albert Hall.

Vinyl
As I found before, it's pleasant enough, but again I found I wasn't really listening to it with much intent. I think the problem is I don't really like jazz guitar (apart from Charlie Bird and Charlie Christian).
And since they are filed close together:
Lalo Schifrin - ' The Dissection And Reconstruction Of Music From The Past As Performed By The Inmates Of Lalo Schifrin's Demented Ensemble As A Tribute To The Memory Of The Marquis De Sade'

Vinyl
Arguably it could be accused of being 'easy listening', but is more akin to Jazz and better composed as you would expect from a writer of film scores.

I think you mean 'Live at the Festival Hall'. Yes I have heard it.
I agree that it is not all 'fusion' (thank goodness), as witnessed by his 'Thieves and Poets', but again that left me cold.

Sorry yes Festival Hall is what I meant. Well we all like different things and that includes music, which is just as well for musicians or it could be all be a the same. As long as we each enjoy what we listen to thats all that matters really. Cheers

Well I had noticed that this was regularly on Grants air-waves and it piqued my interest knowing he is a bit of Blues aficionado. Without any sneak listens online I took the plunge and ordered a copy all the way from Australia, and it was reasonably priced including post. Unfortunately the 1st copy arrived looking like a banana, I suspect sat in the sun waiting for a plane, so I sent pics and they apologised and immediately sent another, I think it actually may have come from the artist office looking at the receipt.
So how is it? It is quite a treat! Recorded live in 2 days using just using 2 mics and a two track Ampex 351 tape machine, no overdubbing, with the band positioned around them to get the right mix and levels. It really is not what I expected from an Australian blues singer and guitarist, the way he plays, sings and presents the songs invoke the feeling of a much older blues singer, it really feels your being transported back to an classic 30's/40's blues experience, or earlier on some of the songs even though on this album he is using his Fender Jazzmaster electric guitar. Some songs have a rock n' roll feel but are still very bluesy. A brilliant album IMO.

Has anyone ever successfully cured a warped record? I'm thinking that if the disc was laid flat under a sheet of glass and left in the sun for a couple of minutes it may just work. I have a pretty warped copy of "Axis Bold as Love" which I may try to 'fix'.
if its badly warped its unlikely to be fixed.. gentle warps can be tho. yoi have to be careful with temp and time tho. there are companies that do it, but its not perfect and not cheap
Pigmy Pony

The warp is not severe, so I'll risk it for a biscuit and report back. Just need the sun to return, but probably an early morning thing.
https://img.discogs.com/CnPqgA4YzimnyvU7JP9jqY0wZ38=/fit-in/600x594/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():qualit y(90)/discogs-images/R-12312522-1546100647-2320.jpeg.jpg
My copy is as flat as a board, and with silent inter-track grooves. For such a thick LP, it would be near impossible to remove any warp.
Flattening warped records is a haphazard affair. Placing the warped record between two sheets of glass and weighing them down with something heavy such as a car battery often works initially - but the warp can reappear with time, and often does. But sometimes it is successful.
The secret is to apply some heat, and there are a couple of propriatory 'disc flatteners' that do just that. However I have no experience of them or of the results

Both were very able Barry but not overly well known,, their first names were used to produce the band name. 'Pink Floyd' by Sid Barrett, who got them off a record sleeve.
Now that is news to me. I thought you were just having a word-play game with the names "Pink" and "Floyd".

Nice find Adrian - some classics there, especially the Stan Getz and the Webster/Peterson; though I wouldn't classify Michel Legrand as jazz, more as 'easy listening'.
You are lucky - I wish our recyling center had a few (or indeed any) 'for sale' opportunities.

Yes Legrande is generally easy Listening, but on this it is definitely more towards the Jazz side of things, especially side 2, Phil Woods influence maybe

No worries, mate. Forgot to reply. It's very good indeed, and the recording quality is SUPERB. Like you say, I suspect a reissue, as it says 'First recorded in 1966'. However, as you can see it's pretty old, with the fold-over covers:

Yups, no intention of selling it. Got some nice original Blue Notes, too... This kind of stuff knocks today's so-called 'audiophile pressings' into a cocked hat. It also really shows off what the vinyl medium is capable of, sonically!:)

It was a Grammy winner. The first time I heard the first track March I didnt get it but after several listens it clicked, its a tongue in cheek study of a Marching stret band thats on the edge of cant play but is also just on the edge of playing really well. If you listen several times you should her it shift from usual chords to dissonant ones, which are not quite right, also the timing keeeps moving about making it all sound weird, but it always comes back to where it should be. It must have been quite hard to play.

Following on from listening to Pat Metheny - 'First Circle' yesterday I thought I would revisit this, it was only released a year after but is quite different to the aforementioned album, it is much more traditional in style, with aspects of Bop, although in places it has aspects of the Metheny improvisational traits. 80/81 is a pretty good album IMHO.

Wayne Shorter "Joy Ryder". Very much an out-of-the-speakers-and-around the-room sound. Which is nice :) Or maybe it's just my ears, I don't normally listen this late. "Cathay" is my favourite, even if the rest of the album was cack, I'd keep it just for that track ;)

At the moment its only open a couple of hours , 3 days a week.
Ah, I see... Have you been before?
Trouble with Glasgow is that there are so many record shops (or at least there were last time I was up), and they're scattered all over the place, with a few good ones in the west end, so it's getting round them all and doing that justice - would take all day!
Whereas the wee one in Paisley is easy to get to (and park), and if you go when they're open, you might just find a few gems!:)

Don’t want to upset anyone from Paisley, but yes, only kidding, I went to college in Paisley, a very long time ago. Apart from from driving through it a couple of times , not been in about 5 years.
LOL - I know Paisley well. Used to go to school there. Was it Reid Kerr college you went to?:)
Also lived there, but in one of the posh bits, near Barshaw Park.

Yes, spent 2 years at Reid Kerr doing Business Studies
Cool... Well I went to St Mirin's secondary school in Renfrew Rd. I'm sure it's part of Reid Kerr now.

Nice house
Cheers, it was the second house we lived in together. We paid £75k for it back in 1995. Probably worth more than double now. Ralston isn't cheap.

(My copy has the centre labels reversed, i.e. 'Face A' is actually 'Face B' and vice versa. No doubt that mistake will add value for record collectors.)

I only play one of the sides: Side 2 of Record 2: "Miles Runs the Voodoo Down". The other sides are OK but 2/2 is by far my favourite. Don't know why.

I only play one of the sides: Side 2 of Record 2: "Miles Runs the Voodoo Down". The other sides are OK but 2/2 is by far my favourite. Don't know why.

I found it a really difficult listen when I first bought it but it has grown on me over the years.
'In a Silent Way' is one of my favourite MD albums and see BB as a kind of slightly more random extended version.
After listening to Pharoah Sanders 'Karma' immediately before it doesn't feel quite as extreme.
Agree that the cover art is fantastic :)

Great ones [emoji1303]
Agreed, especially the Mingus.
To continue the Miles Davis theme, I dug this out to play. Miles intended it to be a follow-on from 'Bitches Brew', but the concept and ideas changed during the making.

I don't have that but have listened part way through on Spotify and liked what I heard.
That is another Mati Klarwein cover isn't it?

I'd not heard of 'The Cookers'.. quick search and I'm listening to it via Bandcamp.
A cracking album that I'm gonna have to get - thanks for sharing :)
You're welcome, sir. I'm glad you like it. It's a great album.
And here's another one. An oldy but a goody.
