In this case, Darkest Africa refers to Johannesburg, South Africa.

Mois? 64 years old, 40+ years in IT, 39+ years in Wedlock (same wench), 2 x daughters (hands off!), music more important than audio gear (audio gear is a means to an end), absolutely zero Naim kit, other interests include handmade knives, photography, reading, ... and avoiding traffic fines.

Favourite beer: Windhoek Lager (local fro Namibia)
Favourite spirit: Laphroaig
Favourite meal: Kingklip Thermidor

K kessler used the Pro Gen Va for a few years and I've always wanted to hear one....

Music tastes? Fairly eclectic, but can't stand Rap, Heavy Metal, and the like (could never understand why anyone would to use high-resolution and high-fidelity to reproduce distortion) ;)

Most popular genres? Jazz, Female Vocals (Jazz & non-Jazz), 60s Rock, Classical, New Age/Fusion, Spoken Word (mainly comedy shows from early BBC days - Goons, Hancock, Horne, etc)

Like all things Trek? Not really - a fair proportion though! But 7of9 was always a drawcard to Voyager... :eyebrows:

Anyway, good to be here and thanks for the welcome!

The New Age kick dates back to 1987 and a visit to California. My jazz collection was reasonably complete, my classic collection likewise, and I had a large collection of 60s rock, and - finally - found the pop/rock of the 1980s to be a collection of drivel, so was ripe for something new.

Call it 'right time, right place' but when I walked into a music store and heard Fred Simon's "Time and the River", I was sold...

At the time Jeremy Taylor was popular here in South Africa, I was still living in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe and much the worse for it).

While SA had their Jeremy Taylor, we had a dude named Wrex Tarr...

Sadly, Wrex passed away in 2006 - although he went while performing, which is probably just how he would have wanted it...

In our so-called enlightened society of today, most of Wrex's humour would be lambasted for being politically incorrect and this can be seen in some of the feedback to his video clips on YouTube.

Much of the dialogue in the clip will probably have whistled over the top of your balding pates (says he, projecting like mad), but, for those of us that were there, it has huge nostalgia value.

I was born in Feb 1946 - 9 months and 2 minutes after the old man got back from WW2. This means that I am a geriatric of 64!

Birthplace was Cape Town, South Africa:

In 1957 we moved to what was then Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia (now Harare, Zimbabwe):

Being 11 years old, I attended my last two years of primary school at David Livingston School before moving to Churchill School, where I went through the two stages of:

Cambridge School Certificate (CSC) at "O" Level
General Certificate of Education (GCE) at "A" Level

In early 1965, I went back to Cape Town to attend University of Cape Town.

Three years later - having succumbed to a TKO in the third round - I started work in a pyrotechnic factory.

In 1969, I decided to hop onto the then burgeoning IT bandwagon and joined a US-based multinational. 40+ years later I'm still with them...

Along the way, I married a Cape Town girl and we have two daughters - one soon to be 34 and the other 21.

In 1980 we moved from Cape Town to Johannesburg after a promotion to a head office position and are still here 30 years later.

Interests? (ignoring audio for the moment): Reading, photography, knife-collecting, cars.
