If you go shopping, keep an eye on what is in your change. Don't let dodgy shopkeepers palm old round pound coins off on you. You can bet some will try, rather than have to sort them and bank them.
It is illegal for them to do so now anyway, not to mention they would be defrauding you.

The old £5 notes can be changed for new ones at POs and banks - can you do that with old £1 coins?
yes, but you have to go to your own bank; is what I was told.

Contacless / card payment make money mostly redundent now :)
Tescos in Scotland will still take them until Sunday [emoji6] not sure if the English ones doing the same.
work better than the hex ones in shopping trolleys too.:D a lot get stuck and I sometimes get a bonus:lol:

Take them to Tesco, post office or bank.
As long as you're an account holder at the bank [emoji6]
Mind you not sure how strict they'll be on the account part.
Someone has palmed me off with one already.

Spend 'em at Tesco.
It is reckoned that there is a high percentage of counterfeit £1 coins in circulation, and the banks will check each and every one of them.
Tesco around here can't even manage to successfully rotate stock on a shelf, so they they won't pick up dud £1 coins :eyebrows:

Already got rid. Went in one of those shops where the bloke who serves you is permanently on the blower to someone and is paying as little attention as possible to his actual job. No problemo.

You can still put the old ones in the machines at Poundland. I would think any machine will still take them so you dont have to cash them in at the bank. I was still getting them out of change trays so its probably a while yet until they are all out of circulation
I suppose we were due a change as the old ones were getting real tatty and there is supposed to be loads of counterfeits.
I have visions of them scratching their heads on how to make the new looking ones. They are probably at work now filing the sides and painting the centres :) Thre must be a point where its just not worth it.
The good old british pound in our poundshop economy. I get quite upset now if my toiletries and household consumable cost more than a pound each :)
