As we are mostly shavers, I thought about time we shared our secrets to success on something you need to do every day or so, unless your a beardy, and then you may well treat it to something nice.
So, give out the knowledge folks.:D

I use a Braun Series 9 electric razor, and don't need anything else.

I also use a Braun Series 9 for a clean, quick shave. I've tried others and find the Braun shaves closer, though you do need to change the foil and cutter regularly.

Sometimes have a wet shave, I just use Sainsbury's own brand disposable razors. I've tried some of the more expensive disposables and they are not as good and don't last as long. Can't see the point of all this badger hair brush and cut throat razor stuff. For me shaving is an unavoidable pain in the arse, not a hobby or interest.

Cheap Remington R91 electric shaver most days and a wet shave about once a week with a Tesco triple blade disposable razor used with LIDL gel. Not interested in anything fancier, 'cos it works fine for me.

I find a good shave with an electric shaver takes nearly as long as a wet shave really, so it's not a convenience choice. The occasional wet shave is nice because it is certainly a closer shave.

I have to boil the kettle if I don't want to wet shave in cold water. So it is convenience for me. Plus however careful I am I always end up getting some of the foam in my mouth and I hate that.

I've been using a Gillette Mach 3 triple blade wet razor for years along with Gillette Series gel and if I feel like it a splash of Joop aftershave. Can't get on with electric razors. Slightly off topic I use Remington electric clippers followed by the Mach 3 on my bonce.

Some are, thats sure, and these multiple cartridge things I get the boy, and Ive got a couple around too, are incredibly expensive for what they are.

An interesting take on this. I love shaving as its me time. I use a Muhle German razor and Proraso Italian creams. Blades vary but are usually Muhle, Derby or Feather if I'm feeling like risking it all.:eyebrows:

Wet shave my fat face with Mach 3 razor and shaving soap and brush daily.
Also do my (now Bald) head with a Philips series 5000 daily too.
Surprisingly doesn't take too long to do both on a morning.

Much better value for money (and a far, far better shave) with a proper safety razor, a brush and some good shaving cream.

Like most blokes stuff, bit of a boutique industry going on, but no need to spend silly money.
Use a Merkur 34C safety razor with feather brand blades, Taylor of Bond Street shaving cream with a good brush.
About £100 for the lot, a bit spendy if your used to using yellow Bic's, but a good investment.
Helluva shave and you end up saving money over time.

Just checked and my cartridge one is same. use it when Ive got a big growth and dont fancy cutting myself or am a bit shaky. Its best one Ive tried although dont bother with the vibration bit

I’ve been using a Merkur 34C double edge safety razor for years now.
I could never go back to disposables.

I use it with BIC blades, Truefitt & Hill Ultimate Comfort Shaving Cream and Korres Aftershave Balm.

I use a cut throat / straight razor when I'm in the mood. For a fast shave, I use the blue triple Lidl (or Aldi, can't remember) razors which are very good. Shaving cream is Weleda or the turkish Arko shaving stick. After shave is mostly some balm from Weleda or from Nicolas Jennings (Ambre Essentiel) and sometimes some original Bay Rhum. Makes me feel fresh and ready for a good tune and / or a good time with my wife.

I used Merkur blades for a long time but now use the Bic Chrome Platinums which are a little sharper but still extremely smooth for me.
Choice of blades is a such personal thing though ... Bit like vintage tubes!!

agreed. I usually prefer Turkish Derbys myself but like feathers too, although they can be a tad sharp. Use a Muhle with long handle myself as Ive big hands

think Ive only nicked myself a couple of times with a Derby. and that was due to trying to use it too many times. I usually just have 3 shaves with a blade. You get more out of a feather tho.

I shave my head every two or three days using a Lidl 5-blade Shark razor, which cost £2.99.
I think that's very reasonably priced and the refills are cheap - four for £3.79.
I get through one a month I guess.

They're really, really sharp so I always have to take it nice and slow for the first couple of shaves with a new head - on the razor, not on my shoulders ;)

Twice in the past I've forgotten and done my usual speedy slash shave and taken a long ribbon of skin off my bonce.
It's very painful and takes days to heal. Incidentally, if you do get a scab anywhere, just moisturise the hell out of it and it heals much faster - the juices in the lotion seem to speed up the entire clotting process for some reason.

I wouldn't shave my face with one though - far to unwieldy for that, with the five blades - but it's absolutely brilliant for my head. I've used other razors like two- and three-blade disposables and the difference is staggering.

I actually don't shave my face at all - I've got a beard trimmer and keep a constant level of stubble.
I don't think I've shaved it for at least a decade, maybe longer.
It's like tattoos - nobody cares anymore :)

Oh, and as for foam or gel .. it doesn't really matter. I've used soap and it's been fine.
Just so long as everything's lubricated nicely, as the actress said to the bishop.

I know many people with tattoos, but I always think it displays something of a lack of judgement to have them.

Same with extreme body piercings and wearing loads of bling jewelry.

I meant in terms of them being acceptable in society, not anyone personally.

I read recently that the only place that they're still a no-no is The City - other than that, most places have relaxed their policies.

I have four discrete tats myself, only one of which is visible in a t-shirt - Susan Tedeschi's signature on the inner of my left forearm.

I too don't like body piercings and the facial ones are getting silly now.
I find it refreshing when a girl DOESN'T have either her tongue or belly pierced.
Also, I don't like sleeves on anyone - I just think they're too much, though not as bad as those utterly ridiculous expander ear-rings. WTF is that all about ?
I've been to Africa and seen the real thing and it's cultural. Don't do it just to be "rad, dude" ..

not big on tattoo's myself but on men, the odd one for a good reason is ok. dont like them on women. as for body piercing, or face, its naff.
Feel a lot of folk get lots of tattoos because they feel its their only voice. disenfranchised I guess is the word. so a protest, although they may not realise it.

Reminds me of a club we had down here called The Network, which was kinda like an indie, gothy type of place.

All these kids dressed in black would traipse down there on a Friday or Saturday night to mosh to Slipknot or The Sisters Of Mercy or whatever.
They really stood out as they walked through town, the boys invariably in full-length leather duster coats and the girls in flouncy skirts, ripped fishnets and corsets, both sexes pale as ghosts with eyeliner only serving to emphasise how "different" they were to the sheep wearing normal clothes ..

.. till they got to the club, where everyone was dressed like that :lol:

I have always used an electric razor. So spent most of that time using a Philishave electric rotary , ok, but always need to keep the blades something like and looking for the next replacement. Tried a phillips for a couple of models but never had a great shave with them.
My other half gave me a Remington rotary from Lidl for a Christmas present . :doh:
I was underwelmed to tell the truth , (expecting it to be substandard)but must admit that its the best razor for the money ever for me!!!!!
2 years nearly and still on the same blades !!:eek:
