PAYPAL....advice please

Im trying to sell a musical instrument part, and a buyer overseas wants it.

He has offered to pay me via PAYPAL gift/friends. I then deliver it to a friend of his, who lives close to me.

I have a Paypal account, but am not hugely familiar with its workings.

Am I correct in that paypal gift/friends can not be reversed?

I would clear the funds out of my Paypal a/c before delivering.

Could I end up with Paypal chasing me, if this guys funds to them turned out to be dodgy. ie stolen credit card etc?

Any advice would be great.

If he pays you as a family/friends payment then he cannot reverse it and has no comeback.

As far as I know, he wouldnt. as he chose F&F he is stating no goods were sold thus cant claim goods didnt arrive or were faulty.
i might add both of you may have paypal account suspended if he did complain

Anything paid by credit card or debit card can be reversed by the card issuer, or the card holder asking for a chargeback for various reasons, or saying it was an unathorised transaction.

Just saying this if he funds it with card.

I'm not fully conversant with the rules regarding refunds for friends and family payments, but other than this I would be wary. It is unwise to accept PayPal for anything that involves collection or 'mates delivery' as the buyer, if unscrupulous, can claim the item never arrived, and you would be unable to produce some sort of proof of delivery document if it wasn't shipped.

Also, don't be fooled by thinking that the money is safe if you remove it from your PayPal account! If PayPal want to take it back then they will, and it will either be deducted from your linked bank account/credit card, or your PayPal account will simply go into a negative balance as they grab back the funds. A recent buyer of mine turned out to be a cretin, who actually stole parts from the amplifier I sold him,before raising a case against me as the item "stopped working". As this was 6 weeks after the sale, I had long withdrawn the funds, and was somewhat annoyed to find my PayPal account over £800 in the red one day, as a result of his complaint! :steam:

I agree with the above completely, if the buyer does decide to claim he never received it, you have no way of proving he did.

yes agree with whats been said,also never send to anything other than the buyers registered pay pal address.

Never pay by Friends and family , or sell abroad , Cash is king , if some one picks it up and then says he never received it to paypal you will lose your money as no proof of delivery has been obtained , paypal is great if you no the person and they are in the uk , not sure about abroad , never pay by bank trans or accept a payment via bank trans , you will lose evey thing ,

You are selling, you insist on transfer by paypal friends and family, so as far as paypal are concerned the buyer is just sending you money out of the goodness of his heart. There is no legal transaction taking place for paypal, they even warn you of this when you make a payment via friends and family. So if you are the buyer and you don't get the goods you cannot reclaim your money via paypal. Via your bank or credit card provider, I don't know. I strongly suspect they would not be interested either.

If you make a payment by paypal, totally different matter. Then the seller has to trust the buyer.

When you receive a payment can you tell if it was sent as payment for goods or family and friends?

Don't do it Brian as it may well be a scam and you will have no proof that the "friend" will ever pass the item on

They only way I would touch it is if the buyer sends Paypal to that "friend' and then he pays you the cash, that way there is no danger of them trying to reverse the Paypal transaction

if he said no, then it most likely was a scam. there is no good reason not to other than him using a credit card .... they can and may refund him if he says it was fraud, and may come after you. but its a little complex adding paypal in the mix. Personally Id be well shot of him.
oh and the "friend" ay be the buyer.
