When I read these reviews in the mags, they just seem to be reviewing the price.

Hardly. It was an attempt at being light-hearted about saying that so close to a joint forum event we should avoid inter-forum spats of this nature. There is a good deal of skirting around the letter of an AUP going on over there. The references to us are so thinly disguised as to be completely transparent.
I look forward also to listening to the oxymoron of a good "foo free" system plonked on a table and strung together with bell end I mean wire.
Just kidding. It should be an enjoyable day for all and all that warrior posturing stuff is to be left at the keyboard at home and we can get on with having fun sharing a common interest.

Ah Tower Records, now that was an emporium. I used to spend hours in the Piccadilly Circus branch, scouring the vast amounts of rare LPs that you simply couldn't get anywhere else.

Going back even further, I used to go to Richard Branson's first Virgin shop in Oxford Street where you walked through a shoe shop and went upstairs at the back. I'm fairly sure I was served by him too.

If true that makes me very sad indeed :(. I like Sam's writing and have found myself in agreement with him many times over the years. Its things like this that damage reviewer credibility, even if its only a one of event.

Getting back on-topic (an often rare thing of beauty here on AOS :eyebrows:), having now heard the effect of Mark's G1000HD cables in your system, how accurate would you say the 'What Lie-Fi?' review was? :)

What I do know is what I heard: the MG cable made an obvious and very audible improvement over a same-length Profigold OFC cable when directly swapped out. Although I have always believed cables make a difference, even I was astonished at the level of improvement made. I could almost hear us simultaneously sucking our breath in after the first few notes.
What I can't know is what exactly WHF did with that cable. It seems dubious, in the light of what we now know, that it was given a fair test. Whether it was room, equipment, incompetence or something else I couldn't say. I'm glad, though, that they're giving it another chance.
Putting my money where my mouth is, I have already ordered two pairs of G1000HDs from MG.

I believe WHF employed a professional acoustic company to equip both the 2 channel and the multi channel rooms out (being fair the cinema/multi channel room is the better of the two).
The room is seriously dead, along the lines of one of the practice areas we use in the studio!
Virtually zero ambiance, upper frequency range, and interesting bass response too!
I understand what they have tried to create an equal playing field which is admirable, however it bares zero resemblance to a home environment and all the properties there found.

Rt is reverberation time. The more dead a room is the shorter the Rt. Tiled bathrooms (a live room) have a long Rt.
From a random web search:
Reverberation time is the time needed for sound to be reduced to one millionth part of its initial energy after the emission has stopped, i.e. to be reduced by 60 db. You yourself can very easily observe this phenomenon in the room. Clap your hands and you will hear a short, clear sound if you do it out in the open, or you will hear echoing if you do it in the empty underground garage. Or, more likely, you will hear something in between these two extremes. This indicates that the longer the reverberation time, the more reflected sound is there and the whole sound will be louder. And vice versa, the less reflected sound, the whole sound will be quieter. It is not uncommon that the total sound level in a room is 10 db higher than the optimum which is practically 10 times stronger. It is as if the amplifier supplies the loudspeakers with 100 W instead of 10 W.
RT is used in the design of recording studios, recording spaces (churches) etc.
Chesky records recommend a listening room Rt of less than two-tenths of a second (quite low), but obviously room damping can be overdone to a detrimental effect, as in the case of the WHF room.
Here's another quote:
"Reverberation time naturally goes up with room size, because it takes longer for sound to decay in larger rooms. There are fewer wall reflections over the same time period in a large room compared to a small room. Amazingly, our brains appear to compensate for this, so the room reverberation sounds ‘normal’ for the room size. And yet this sophisticated mechanism still preserves a perception of the relative liveness or deadness of a space. A 1-second reverberation time for a very large concert hall would likely make that room sound too dead. But the same 1-second reverberation time in a much smaller space, such as a home listening room, would sound too live."
The optimal RT60 can even vary with the type of music played; modern, fast-paced, complex music needs somewhat lower RT60 times.

There's a reverberation time calculator at http://www.owa.de/en/menu/190/Reverberation_time_calculation.html It's mainly for classrooms, but can be used for any room with some artistic licence. .
Up until now I'd never heard of 'reverberation time'.

Oh I know all about that, and have done it many times, but just never knew I was testing 'reverberation time'. I was aware of the process, but not of the correct terminology :)

There's a reverberation time calculator at http://www.owa.de/en/menu/190/Reverberation_time_calculation.html It's mainly for classrooms, but can be used for any room with some artistic licence. .
Ah shit, I don't think any of my my rooms have artistic licences - will I get the forms down the post office?

46hz. to 23khz. +/- 3db. !!!
and under a $1,000 !!!
with Benic caps and well made crossovers!
I have heard them they have a wide sound stage and no honky nasal horn effects.
For that alone Klipsh should get a medal.
I never felt the bass was excesive.
Just more of it than you would expect from a book shelf size speaker,if this was a floor stander by any other name the review would have been glowing.
They are 30 pounds each,thats a heavy little speaker!

I think it's now obvious that WHF don't know their arse from their elbow, so one can safely attach the minimum of credibility to anything written in that particular hi-fi comic :)
