Up for sale due to the fact I just fancy a change and a chance to listen to other phono stages.

This is the MM/MC version and will be supplied with the 100ohm loading plugs and instructions.
I sent this back to Alan just over a year ago when he updated it to the latest version for me. I'm not sure what he done but I'm hoping he will be along shortly to advise further (if he can remember)

It really is great sounding and in very good condition. I've not added a volume pot to it, I've only stuck the knob on to match my WAD Kel84.

I'm going to ask £375 including next day P&P (Please advise if set to high as I don't know there value lately)

This particular unit started life as the standard build and was updated to the Plus specification when returned to me.

The Plus has better linearity, slightly higher gain and a lower output impedance. :)

There very good Grant. It's just system change time. I'd love to keep it but I'm afraid funds won't allow me to buy without selling & its they only way I can hear different equipment.

Hope your well mate!
Nathan.

I'm interested to know what options you get from the loading plugs? Are they something that Alan supplied? Are you using them on the MC setting or do you have to use them on MM to bring the loading down from 47KOhm?

Hi Andrew,
I'm not 100% sure if they bring the loading down to be honest. They were supplied with the Firebottle.
When using a MC you plug them in and adjust the toggle switch to the MC setting. When using a MM you remove them and flick the switch down again.
I've just tried to find the instructions to give you more details but I'm afraid I've misplaced them.
Maybe if Alan is about he can spare a minute and give more details about this.

Cheers.

Hi Andrew. The 'standard' input impedance is 47K ohms (MM) which isn't changed by the MM/MC switch.

So for loading in the MC mode a loading plug is needed to bring the input impedance down to whatever suits the particular MC.

Most are specified at 100 ohms but there are some that need a different impedance. Using external plugs gives the flexibility to suit a wide range.

:)

How about a swap or an exchange for a few months? This gives me and whoever a chance to listen to different phonos.

Hi all,

So this ended up with me. It’s a superb phono stage, walks a lovely line along valve texture and solid state slam. Time for me to sell though, as I’ve been lucky enough to be able to buy a Gordon Welford preamp with a good phono section.

£220 plus delivery.

Do you know what the gain is on the MC setting please?

Unsure, sorry. I’ll do some research after work.

Ok, looks like the MM stage has 44dB gain and the MC stage has 61dB, It's set at 100 Ohms for MC and 47KOhm for MM.

Thanks Jake. Unfortunately too low for my 0.15mv cartridge.

GLWTS I’m sure it won’t hang around long at that price!

I'm sure if you talk to Alan ( Firebottle) he will tailor it to your exact requirements.

No worries Paul. At 0.15mv I’d be tempted to go down the MM plus SUT route personally.
