Very sad. I was just reading on Google News that he was in a critical state. He must have just died. Shame!

Very very sad. Loved him. Sound of my youth. Saw him a few weeks back at Hyde Park with Stevie Nicks. A truly exceptional musician.

There was some confusion regarding the timing of the news but it has now been officially confirmed.

I know I've seen Tom Petty cos I've seen the photo's of him on Stage during a late '70s Knebworth, just wish I could remember anything about it..

Always loved the guys work. Always thought I'd catch him again one day, sadly it'll never happen.

Been playing a few Tom Petty discs today.

Can 2017 get any worse?
