Would (do) any members offer opinons (or use) any Class D amps? What speakers are you using? Thanx............ :scratch:

Whoops pushed the wrong key,Class D at the bottom AB in the middle and a little 2020 class D in a box on top.Not much to beat a big class D at the bottom end cept maybe a big MC2.

My Hypex class D amps are on a shelf in the garage,at the moment I'm using a 4 watt single ended design in favour of these.Speakers are quite efficient Impulse H2 Horns.Perhaps Jerry [Covenant] can give an unbiased opinion on these as he recently borrowed them to compare to a valve amp,[the class d amps I mean]

My opinion is that some (almost all) class D behave badly with a lot of speakers, having a tortured frequency response (I've seen +3dB @ 10kHz!!! on Tripaths).

Some sound just ok, some are just good. The technology needs some time to be competitive imho.

I've always been impressed with the NuForce amplifiers, but recently a few folks seem to have been having problems with high frequency distortion. Of course it doesn't mean that there's a technology issue with Class D, and it may be only a certain manufacturing batch from one maker.

The sound however is right up my alley; crisp, clear, detailed and neutral.

Thank you to all who responded ( keep em coming). Smithy it looked like you stole a pic of my rack for a second ( its early in the morning here for me) I am using a Crown K-1 on bottom & also the same Ashley X/O but a 2 way unit. I have never heard Class - D on conventional drivers so this is interesting.........;).

Do you know the maximum output voltage swing of the Model 9? I have thought about trying these amplifiers with Quad ESL 57s, however the Quads cannot tolerate voltages of more than 28V peak (20V rms).

Barry,I was looking at this the other day-in conversation with the vendor,he mentioned that several people had bought one to run '63's with.May be suited?

Hi Ali,

No they don't. I've read that fitting clamping circuits can have an adverse effect on the performance of the ESL 57s. Perhaps I should contact Dada electronics for advice.

Do you know if the clamp circuits simply fit across the speaker terminals? If so, I could try them out without permanent internal installation.

i have had bel canto refs for some years and more recently mr c mooded another pair, i love them . i might even get another set!!

BTW,just read through the comments on that link and there is one person using the amp with '57's.Seems very happy with it.I'll probably get one to run the tv through.

:) Still miss my 57's in some ways.I don't think the midrange of these has ever really been surpassed.

I don't mate to be honest as I've never really got into the specifications (but I do know my own ears of course ;)), but have a look at the informative PDF for the 9SE (linked below) as it gives lots of information. It's a strong amplifier though no doubt, the peak power output runs into the 300s of watts.
