View Full Version : What are "day trippers"?

Someone is advertising some speakers on the wam and the advert says "Demo welcome, but please no day-trippers." Any idea what that means? I can only think he insists you pay for a hotel stay overnight in the area to prove you're serious about buying them. Or alternatively he doesn't want you to find anything else interesting to do in the area at the same time if you're taking a long drive over to hear them. Regardless, that attitude would certainly put me off going for a demo.

He means ' no time wasters' - nobody visiting just to listen to them but with no intention of buying.

No time wasters, no tyre kickers, no hobbyists looking to tick another box.

Hi Lawrence,

Could let me know what the thread title is meant to be, so I can remove the gobbledygook? Ta! :)

Marco.

He'll probably give you a hard time if you don't buy them, even if you think they're not fit to buy or not what you want.

You could always ask him what he means. If he's a prat, it should soon be evident.

No time wasters, no tyre kickers, no hobbyists looking to tick another box.If I go to hear something I don't want to waste my time either if I have no intention of buying it. However what I don't want is to feel under pressure to purchase something which wasn't what I expected as the seller would brand me a tyre kicker if I didn't do so. I've had enough time wasters trying to flog me kit that was knackered or materially not as described, but if every time I contacted them I said you'd better not be a time waster or scam artist I'm not sure I would get many demo opportunities!

People who think potential buyers are usually time wasters should just ask for a 20% non returnable deposit up front before the demo and then see how many tyre kickers there are out there, I'd reckon most of us!

Can't go along with that. Say the item is £800, but turns out to be crap. I've just given the seller £160 for the privilege of turning the item down!

Typical wam nonsense. The blokes probably too far up his own bum to hear the doorbell if one of said "daytrippers" came calling.

Steady guys. I don't visit, so don't know Hi-Fi Wigwam, but knocking another forum is generally not good form.
