View Full Version : FS: B&W DM2 Speakers

A pair of classic transmission line speakers from B&W. They use the same classic combo of Celestion HF1300 and Coles 4001 as the DM4, Spendor BC1 etc.
They add to the bottom end of those with a larger bass driver, cabinet and transmission line loading.
Despite the size, the bass does not boom. There is a trim switch on the back to tune the treble response.

These are in good working order with (as far as I can tell) all drive units working. They need using as they've been sat around for a while.
Cosmetically, they are not perfect with a number of knocks and scratches. I have given the cabinets a polish up and they look pretty respectable as pictured, but don't expect them to be unmarked.

I'd like £100 for them please. They are extremely heavy (even for their size) so collection only from just outside Bicester please (M40, J9).

If you are very quick, I'm heading down to the south coast tomorrow and can put them in the car if you live that way.

Nice speakers and in very good condition. I use a pair of DM2a myself for AV duties. Good luck with the sale.

Owned 3 or 4 pairs in the past, kept going back to them, something addictive about the natural open sound of that 1/8 wave TL design.

I'd love these to try in my 2nd system, but it's the location thing. :(
Bicester is almost exactly in the wrong direction to make it viable for me.

GLWS - I'm amazed these are still here.

My friend in St Ives Cambridgeshire might be interested if they could be delivered, I guess that he'd pay petrol etc.

Thanks Alex but I'm not heading that way in the near future.
I'd prefer they were demoed and collected from here.

That's a shame, my friend became carless a couple of years ago, otherwise he would have collected. He's got some interesting vintage equipment.

Radford STA20 Mk III, yes 20, not as 15, not a 25, Radford SC22, Thorens TD124 II, RAM LS3/5a, B&W DM1, DM3 and DM4, and other stuff.

If you change your mind, or will be near there at a later date, please let me know.

As the estate agents say - location, location, location.

I don't suppose you are heading west at all, Geoff?
I'm in Glos GL17, the Ross on Wye to Monmouth area, and would be happy to meet part way. But not worth the long haul to get to you.

Not at the moment I'm afraid Jerry. I do travel with work now and then though, so I can let you know if I end up heading that way and they're still here.

I have had the good fortune to recently locate a pair of these in my50 cu metre room. I love them big open detailed accurate sound and when given grunt size amperes lovely acoustic and electric bass . Heavy and big with high quality Xovers .Mine needed 17 inch open stands . Well worth travelling miles to own. I've heard many speakers since 1960 and IMO to get their sound quality obtained from todays models would involve a spend of around £1500 likely more. ( perhaps a biggish Spendor might compare) happy with valves too.

I have a set of DM2a (the version with adjustable high frequency response knob on the back).

Oddly someone has replaced the original midrange drivers with KEF B200 (type unknown as I have never taken them out).
I have to say that I really like the sound of them, very clear and yet smooth with it. Low mids and bass are superb.
The sound has less of a "vintage" tinge than others of the era I own.

A great bargain in the hi-fi world these days. Often surprised at how little they seem to be sold for but I suppose their looks are against them.

Can't imagine there is much to compete in the areas they excel in for £100!

Tempting to swap these into my main system and then put my DM600s in my second system.

I've heard both (parents had DM600 before I gave them Ruark Templars for Christmas and I own a pair of DM2a) and that's exactly what you should do. The difference in scale will be very pleasing, presumably.

These are yet another unacknowledged gem of 70s hifi. I remember playing the now-infamous James Blake "Limit To Your Love" with these and really enjoying the experience. Mid-bass in spades, crystal clear, and very impressive!

Thanks for the positive comments folks.

Ceejaydee - you're welcome to come over for a listen. £100 isn't a lot of a risk!

Still here. Just pulled them out of storage to give them some exercise.
Strong mids, tight bass. Come on folks, too good to be locked away!

I'd consider a swap for some decent small stand mounts, or slimmer floor standers.
