Thanks Adam, Richie.
I've owned and enjoyed quite a few EAR amps over the years, including the V20, 859, 534, and the 509 mono-blocks, and I'd genuinely rate this one to be the best.

I find the whole EAR range confusing in terms of the hierarchy. What would be best matched to Tannoy Lancaster C (15" MG). Where does the 890 fit in to that list?
Hi Simon ... yes, it can be a bit confusing. IMO, it's not really a hierarchy, although they differ in retail price, of course. It's that they are designed around different topologies and valves.
I've used both the 534 power amp (push-pull, EL34 valves) and the 861 (push-pull, EL519 valves) with Tannoys, and they are both superb matches. The 890 is just a slightly more powerful version of the 534.
If you have any questions, just PM me

Having owned an 899 (integrated version of the 890), 861, v20 and 509s myself, as well as Lancasters/assorted other cabs with the 15in MG, I'd say the ideal match from that lot would be the 861.
Thanks for the replies Tom/Peter. I've a couple of options to mull over.
A few random thoughts ...
TdP reckons this amp is a superb match with Quad ESL-57s. Certainly, it has 16 ohm taps for use with vintage speakers.
In terms of this amplifier's 'sound', I'd say that it has many of the benefits of an SET (spacious soundstage; mid-range realism; low level detail), combined with the traditional strengths of a good push-pull amp (solid, textured bass; dynamic range; abilty to handle complex music).
I used the XLR inputs with my EAR 912 pre-amp to give a 'hum-free' combo rivalling solid-state for lack of low-level noise.
I am the third owner of this amp, which has a known provenance and has been treated well throughout its life. EL519 valves have extremely long life-spans, rarely needing replacement (if ever!). The same-family PL519s in a pair of EAR 509s I previously owned, were over 20 years old, and EAR said they did not need replacing when I had them serviced (unlike the small signal valves).
Happy to deliver / meet pretty much anywhere in the UK. We're going to lowland Scotland for a holiday in the last week of September, if that helps anyone regarding safe delivery.
Anyone 'up north' wanting this ... shout now, as we're heading up to Edinburgh on Friday for a week .... happy to deliver / meet, etc.
