hey all,

I've been swapping opamps amd finally setled on the OP2132 and wanted to put my LM4562 in the Headphone Amp socket...

cant find the bloomin thing!

So;
anyone have a spare they would swap for a Burr Brown OP2132?

I ordered two from America a while back so they are quite hard to get, I prefer them to the 4562 for Line out, but with my Dac up for the Mutara Regs, Rubycon Caps upgrade I might just invest in a set of cans....

hence the need (well...curiosity) about the 4562 (caiman spec) opamp for headphones.

It's not. After having spent months listening to the usual suspect of opamps, I have detected enough of a difference between them that now allows me to identify most of them.

Thought I'd reply to Gaz here rather than I'm PM. Anyway, had the 2132 in since the weekend and yes it does bring something to the party. A bit more detail and space around instruments etc but with the extra detail you get a bit more "harshness" for me. Back to the 826 and all was OK! I've ended up putting the 2132 into the headphone socket in a hope Ill get a best of both worlds! Have you hear the 826 at all Gaz?

Hey mate,
could be a system dependant thing I dunno..I know that with my speakers (ae109 - rich and dark at low levels but come alive if you turn up the wick: with tremendous bass slam) the 2132s sound sublime...

Not heard the 828s myself, but a fair few swear by them as the "best of the best/rest" dependent on what you used to!

Anyone else here tried the LME49720HA? Note the HA!
Its the metal can type. I've got these in the input stage on my Restek and they are come accross very fast, tight and detailed. These are def my fav opamp! To my ears, they appear more allow more detail through then the DIP version of the LM4562. (I appreciate that most of my listening is via TDA1541 and so the sound is inherrently warm from my source)

I'm not interested in stirring up a fuss, just sharing what I've found to be my fav opamp!

Hey Trailer,

yeah That'd be good mate, thanks very much.
Have you still got my addy somewhere or will I PM you it again?

The 826 is one of the highly regarded ones I've not heard, so will be good to compare against the 4562 and the 2132.
I did have one of the Tirna 4032's, the one with the wee cap soldered on it, but don't have that now.
Will report back....

of course once the Mutara Regs and Rubycon caps are fitted, I get the feeling the choice of Opamp will be up for grabs again!

Cheers,
gaz.

I've settled quite happily on the 4562 in the line out and the old 5532 in the h/phone socket which seems to provide the best balance of anything I've tried so far, so it sounds as if I would like the LME49720HA. Would love to try one if anyone has one lying around they want to sell/loan. Would be very interested in an AD826 too.

I have a few of the usual suspects lying spare if anyone's interested - 4562, OPA2107, 2132, 5532 and one of Tirna's THS4032 which I find a bit too clinical for my system.

Hey Jim,

Got the AD826 this morning, will have a play tonight.
Cheers mucker, will update on my findings.

Actually, reread some of the earlier posts about the 826...sounds promising!

Had the AD826 cooking for a couple of days now..

bloody hell...
quite a step up from the 2132 and the 4562.
I'll sum it up by saying it plays music better..all the Hifi stuff is there and improved, but voices sound more like "real people"..theres no effort to just "get" what the song is about..sometimes it can be a bit of a technical excercise listening to hifi ...you know, appreciating the bass, detail and all of that stuff, but now its all about the music.

Greater "thwack" and rythym too...especially notacible on Rock stuff.
I would say Soundstaging is a lot better, a far more "solid" sound with better back to front imagery - quite noticable actually.

Its easier to hear those little ambient details that make music come to life more too.....?
for instance was listening to Ray Charles "What'd I Say?" (You know it even if you dont know the title :)) and at the start theres a keyboard intro with what I thought was a bass drum kicking every couple of beats...

With the AD826 in place I could easily tell it was a hand...hitting the side of a wooden piano. There was resonance and decay in the acoustic, which I could tell was "echo-ey"?
Before it was what I thought was a bass drum just being hit, one-note and dull.
Little details like that are all very obvious now.

In order..
AD826
OP2132
LM4562

..in my system of course....which whilst not high end is quite transparent and able to show up differences at a subtle level.

Roll on fitting the Mutara regs, Rubycon and Wilma Caps...should be even better!
THEN...I'm going to look at the PSU.

I'm....getting there. :)

Hi Gaz,

I have had the LME49720HA in for about 4 days and really like it. It is more to my liking than the LM4562NA (smoother sound, nicely defined bass and overall more relaxing - similar findings that you have reported with he AD826 in fact). This is with the Murata's, Rubies and a nice linear PSU.

May try the AD826 next out of curiosity.

Chris

Next up for me the Mutara's and the Ruby's....linear PSU you say? ;)

Must admit I much preferred both LM4562 and AD826 over the OPA2132 when used in this dac, its good to see others results and opinions on this stuff :)

Just need a transformer and case now

Hi Stan,

I was wondering how you went with the LT1364’s?
Along with THS4032’s, these two are my preferred all-rounder op-amps at the moment.

Also, have you had a chance to obtain and try the AD826’s?

Cheers Granville
