I've owned/own dozens of cd players some are 30 years old and never had a laser fail. Other components, yes. But never a laser. People think they wear out like a stylus, but they don't. They might decline in power very gradually but they will still work 100% until the day they don't work at all.

The laser on my denon packed up and i replaced it. True it might not have been the actual laser in itself, although it might have been, but the unit is so small as to make it pretty much unservicable
