In the 40 years since he 'died', the King of Rock 'n' Roll has been 'spotted' everywhere from Graceland to Russia. Why?

He is alive
He works at the fish and chip shop at the end of my road.

He never existed. His whole career was a work of fiction created by stand-ins and look-alikes.

mostly these folk dont want to face up to the truth and thus move toward a fantasy scenario where the person has just left and is in hiding, making up excuses as to why

They're known as conspiracy theorists.

They're known as conspiracy theorists.

I know one gullible chap who really believes every example on the net. Like 9/11 was a set-up, the moon landing was a hoax, HAARP is destroying the world climate, we are being subjected to 'chem trail' poisoning. And so on.

we are being subjected to 'chem trail' poisoning. And so on.

They're spraying us like bugs. Like bugs, I tell you!

Elvis is better of out of it if you ask me.

Before decrying conspiracy theorists research the net .... You may be surprised.

the Americans did seed rain over Vietnam, which actually caused them more trouble, but it was to affect their crops and movement. Not big on conspiracies tbh but they do exist. Trouble is the govt agencies responsible send out faulse ones that get found out thus hiding the real ones. Its an old dodge.

Yup - governments are adept at hiding truths in flimsy lies to fool us. I don't believe they are poisoning us with chemtrails - however they are certainly doing something in the UK with them - here in Spain we don't have them. So why do you have so many?

Different atmospheric conditions.

Yes, thats it. An original leak that they were, was picked up and ran with. Scientists have debunked this so few believe it bar the CT's, SO, they can now slip some chemtrails in and be safe in knowledge that 99% wont believe they did it...at least til its too late.
You see how it can work?;)

I've seen what happens in UK. Nice clear morning and within a few hours and a few planes spewing crap it's cloudy and the blue sky vanishes. Maybe it is atmospheric or a way of providing rain for farmers.... Who knows - like I said I don't see anything ominous in them.

Because it's so cold and damp here most of the time. Much like the exhaust of cars. Colder means more condensation. It really is simple. ;)

Not really - yes there is a lot of shit on the net, but if you choose your sources well there is a wealth of solid information on almost anything including conspiracy. If you're idiot enough to read those on the lunatic fringe then of course you come away as bad as they are.

And how does the discerning conspiracy theory buff separate the "solid information" from the "lunatic fringe"?

With great difficulty.

It is a mistake to think that there are no conspiracies, because history indicates that there have been plenty. And they are just the ones we found out about. Watergate for example.

It's when cock-up is mistaken for conspiracy that it all starts with the fruit-cake theories.

Furthermore, there is a conspiracy theory that argues that the US government actively encourages conspiracy theories that involve it, in an attempt to give the impression that they have far more control over events than they actually do in practice.

I agree.

But conspiracy theories seem come in every flavour. To have some sort of credibilty, they require a basis in logic.

I agree. Unfortunately, the ability to pick holes in an illogical argument seems to be a dying art.

It's horrifying to read the illogical internet derived dross that gets quoted as 'evidence' on everything from conspiracy theory to 'health' forums.
