I was hoping to get in better shape during my Greek hols but this non-alcoholic beer, Lidl's finest,
is doing its best to derail my efforts. It's just so good ...

Looks great!
Love a nice creamy froth on coffee, especially an espresso. It's not a true espresso without a proper thick 'crema' on top :)
Some of the thin, black watery things you see sometimes being passed off as 'espressos' are a joke! :nono:
Marco.
It isn't an espresso. It has milk in it.
well the crema is part of the espresso...double espresso let to rum out actually; the microfoam milk makes it a latte. the vanilla makes it a vanilla latte:eyebrows:
It isn't an espresso. It has milk in it.
I know, daftee. I was just making a general comment :)
Can't stand it when you're given an espresso, and there's no crema. For me, the thicker and more 'caramel-like' the crema looks , the better the espresso.
Marco.
My experience is the better the coffee, coffee machine and grinder, the better the crema.
Getting decent frothy milk is another matter.
Anyway, I figured you probably did. Now I know for sure:)

think that was what you had actually.. Del had the Latte. I usually have latte nowadays which is a triple espresso and foam(not froth)milk, and usually I stick a splash of french vanilla iiquor in as i dont ever eat sugar as such. Dont drink sodas very often either. The Elderfower presse is delicious by way, you would like it. it a bit like alcohol free champagne

Not surprised, lol! And it was delicious. Del quite often prefers a longer drink, hence the latte - she's not Italian either! ;)
As a traditionalist, I'm not into putting anything in proper coffee other than a touch of brown sugar, not even Grappa, which many Italians do. Yes, I'm quite partial to Elderflower Pressé. Best served with ice and slices of lime :)

not quite a grizzly but its not got alcohol so I'd say its the best non alc and not far behind. guess if you popped a nip in it would be same. Quite spicy, and not sweet. quite refined actually and you turn it upside down to cloud it.

Snap! That's exactly what I'm having, with some toast, with a light smattering of Beurre D'Isigny and orange 'Bon Maman' French jam.
Plus a nice glass of fresh orange juice :)
Marco.
Mine was with fresh croissants au beure, with a bit of salted butter and home made strawberry jam.
Nice one. No time here for making jam at the moment, so we find the 'Bon Maman' range the nearest to home-made. We bring a stack of it over in the car from France, as it's much cheaper there than in the UK.
I also have croissants (or pain au chocolat) quite often for breakfast, but not this morning. I'm also a fan of 'Choky' hot chocolate, which I presume you'll be familiar with? :)

Is this non-alcoholic beer that you guys are talking about?
Marco.
it is Marco. Quite good these two as well. Best ones I tried so far.
Yeah, the German varieties are about the only ones that are drinkable. Still a pale imitation of their alcoholic brothers, though...
Personally, I've never seen the point in non-alcohol (normally alcoholic) drinks of any description, as they most often taste like shit. If you're driving, then just have a soft fizzy drink, fresh fruit juice or a mineral water with ice and lemon, tea or coffee - or better still, get a tea-totaler to drive and enjoy the real thing! ;)
I just don't 'do' consuming anything that's grossly compromised, compared with what it's capable of being at its best, and non-alcoholic beer comes under that category, but hey, whatever floats your boat
Incidentally, I feel exactly the same about 'low calorie' anything. Just reduce the frequency and quantity intake of the most fattening (but much tastier) stuff!!
Marco.
I am quite enjoying mine :) Obviously you do miss the alcahol taste a bit; that cant be copied but overall its a nice refreshing drink and gives you a close taste of your fav drink

It certainly is Marco. And it tastes better than many alcoholic lagers I have tried!
It’s different class to many of the rather insipid non-alcoholic beers there are around.
I don’t drink much alcohol these days but when I drink Erdinger, I don’t think I’m missing out on any flavour at all.
I don’t know how effective the isotonic properties are but It’s extremely refreshing.

As the light fades on a dull and drizzly autumn afternoon, and with some cool jazz sounds in the room, it's time to cosy-up beside the wood burner with a nice cup of tea, but not just ANY tea, some nice rich, malty Assam.
This 'Single Estate' stuff I've bought from The Bristol Tea Company really is top notch...

How would you describe the taste of LS, Barry, say compared with Assam or Earl Grey? I've not had it before :)
Marco.
I am sure it is too much for my needs, but I thought I would treat myself to something that would last me a very long time!
How would you describe the taste of LS, Barry, say compared with Assam or Earl Grey? I've not had it before :)
Marco.
Lapsang is a smoked black China tea - so a bit of an acquired taste (I love smoked products: smoked haddock; smoked bacon, smoked cheese etc.). It is my favourite tea after Darjeeling (oh, and some tea I brought back from Burma, but I don't know what it is as I can't read the script!).
Earl Grey is flavoured with oil of bergamot, so has a distinctive scent. Again a bit of an acquired taste, I like a cup of it now and again.
Assam has a malty taste, and makes a hearty brew.
Cheers for that, mate. I like some smoked things [love smoked fish or chicken, for example], but am a bit wary of it in drinks, preferring scented or malty flavours.
Not had Darjeeling in years, so can't really remember how it tastes. How does it compare with, say, Assam?
Marco.

Cheers for that, mate. I like some smoked things [love smoked fish or chicken, for example], but am a bit wary of it in drinks.
Marco.
I've been known to drop fag ash in my beer. Does that count? :)
Bergamot oil in Earl Grey is rumoured to give you stomach cancer.
Darjeeling is my fave at one stage I was paying serious prices for the best.
Heh-heh... Possibly a touch too 'earthy'! :D
Marco.

Not had Darjeeling in years, so can't really remember how it tastes. How does it compare with, say, Assam?
Marco.
Darjeeling is a far more delicate tea (both in flavour and colour). It is often referred to by afficianados (of which I'm one) as the 'Champagne of Tea'.
Assam on the other hand is more robust, is darker in colour and has a stronger and malty taste. I prefer over Russian tea.
Ok, thanks. So would you say that the basic flavour of Darjeeling (although delicate) veers more towards smokiness, maltiness, scented-ness, or is more citrusy?
Marco.

If anything it is more citrusy.
Go and buy yourself some.
Will do... I just wanted a rough idea of what it was like before I did :)

Marco.Make sure it is loose leaf. As long as you brew loose leaf for a few minutes even cheap supermarket stuff can be very nice.
Yeah defo, Justers... It'll be sourced from a specialist tea company, though. Cheap supermarket? Come on, you know me! ;)
Marco.
On leave tommorow, so weekend begins early :)
Couple of nips of Lagsvulin 16, tunes on all is well with the world.

My thoughts were to go cheap to see if you like the basic flavour.
For instance, I think Lapsang Souchong is spitteroutable shit at any price.:(
However, by all means start at the top for Darjeeling. Just don't blame the Justers if that plan goes wrong for you.;)

 I'm enjoying another cup of Lapsang! So what tea do you like to drinK Justin?
As for starting at the top, I brought back a large quantity of top-quality Darjeeling loose leaf tea from an estate I visited in Darjeeling.

I'm most jealous Barry! Enjoy :)
Darjeeling is indeed the champagne of teas. One of my favourite treats is first or second flush Darjeeling with scones, jam and cream, in one of my favourite Cotswold cafes ...

I'm trying to move from low alchohol beer to zero alcohol beer in an effort to keep blood sugar levels down.
Just discovered this San Miguel which is actually rather good, will make a very nice summer drink.
If it just had a slightly fuller flavour it would be just about perfect for me ...

I absolutely adore Erdinger! That and Clausthaler are my faves ...
I've just compared the nutrition stats with the San Miguel and strangely enough they are about the same.
Erdinger comes in much bigger bottles though and I'm tempted to drink more!
I've been drinking mineral water for quite some years now and a while ago de ided to make my own purer stuff.
I have a distiller and add minerals afterwards to suit me.
It makes really clean water by distilling then filtering it. Can't get purer than this and at a fraction of the costof bottles. Plus it's much better for the planet... Ps I use green energy lolhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190617/09bce692aa5495b6ea77aecbd743e0ee.jpg

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190618/bfa29e16d8fbdb26b982d6330deac5d9.jpg
Are you enjoying them Grant? :)
What I like about them is that you don't need to use much to get a good fruity flavour, as the syrup is very concentrated.
Marco.

Marco. Not opened them yet. I picked up a couple of bottles in sainsbury's of different but quite nice stuff and are open so will use them first.
Also got a litre bottle of vanilla and a pump for coffee use
A glass of this in my distilled water after doing the shopping.
It's very nice

Nice one, Paul. The whole of the Sanpellegrino range is fab! Check out the blood orange one too (Aranciata Rossa) which is gorgeous, and the grapefruit one (Pompelmo)... Remember Lilt? Well this is MUCH better:)

Homemade sparkling lemon barley.
Not badhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220205/fc90dd5136db909099859426845871ce.jpg
A cup of “builders tea”.
Scottish Breakfast tea, with a wee drop of milk just to turn the tea a dark shade of brown.
A cup of coffee made in my Mocca pot.
lime cordial and sparkling "spring water" - only fizzy drink that I enjoy when having a break from beer
Very rare that I am not drinking coffee or something alcoholic, but if I’m not robbing the kids Ribena it will be Robinson’s Raspberry Rhubarb and Orange Blossom Cordial - highly recommended “posh squash” as we call it. :)
If it's fruit juice, then for me it is either pink grapefruit or orange juice for breakfast, or orange and mango at other times of the day (in the Summer).
But more often or not it will be coffee made in a Mokka pot or a cup of tea.
Homemade diet cola.
Rather good too.

You are right to do so. I have spent my adult life working in international health in many of the world's poorest countries. If people knew more widely about the devastating effect of Nestle's policies and practices on infant mortality they would never consume let alone buy another of their products.

See what you mean Barry, and I will look for alternative coffee pods, and rethink some of my other buying decisions. Though as the illustration below shows, it will take some effort. Who knew about the perfume/toiletry brands?

See, this is where things can become complicated - I really like evaporated milk, it is great for rice pudding, and I often have it on desserts. For cost reasons we tend to buy supermarket own-brand, but who's to say that doesn't originate with Nestle? A lot of big brands supply others with their product, to be used under a different name I think.
Almost as tricky as boycotting Chinese products.

Just had a look in the cupboard. Ours is from Morrisons. It says on the label: Produced for Morrisons from Dutch milk. What chance have we to boycott effectively? Time for Barry and Geoff Sherwood to step in and tell us what they do, but I'll say now that growing my own cow is a non-starter :nono:
