*** SOLD ***

I’m selling my Quad ESL57 electrostatic loudspeakers in great condition and full working order.

Cosmetically in very nice condition, apart a couple of dents and nicks, as you could expect from speakers of that age.

The original Bulgin Mains socket of one speaker was bypassed and replaced with a standard IEC socket underneath (see last picture).

Original Bulgin Mains cables and IEC are included.

I’m looking for £400.

Buyer collects from Ealing, West London.

If you have any questions please ask.

Many thanks.

Very nice - and at a reasonable price. Good luck with the sale.

Great price for a pair from a proper enthusiast so you know they'll be working properly.

Everyone should own a pair of ESLs at some point in their hifi journey.

Or two pairs :)

Why stop at two? Mike Oldfield is said to have used two arrays of 8 x 8 Quad 57s for his PA system.

But the two for sale here would make a good start.

Serious bargain here folks. Who's going to grab these superb speakers?

I've always wanted to try a pair of these legends - but I just don't think my room would them justice. Plus they'd need shipping. Bloody bargain.

You need a metre behind them (I used some sound absorbing panels) but a huge amount of width isn't necessary. Plus you can turn them sideways when not in use

Hi tom, 1 metre is the problem though I could use absorbing panels, it's lack of distance from listening position that worries me - about 3.5 metres.

Plenty I would say.

Mine are ~ 3 metre away from the rear wall, but less than 50mm from the side walls.

I would buy them in a minute if they were close by! Wow they are nice! And I've always wanted a pair. They appear to be in first rate condition, so close but so far away.

Maybe they could be shipped by a trusted remover, instead of a courier.

This is reliable:

I'm in the States, I'm sure the shipping would be twice the price of the speakers. And the van might get waterlogged. Sounds like a good deal though, for those within distance.

..and me. I've been told I can't stack them with my pair unfortunately.

Come on someone, these are a bargain for the performance on offer.

The problem for me is packing them properly so no damage can occur in the hands of various monkeys on their way to Spain!

I think you should either keep them or put the price back up to £500 as its a give away price at that
Everyone should own a pair once in their lifetime , They are a super speaker classic looks and very advanced for there age
I love mine and they are not going anywhere , I drive from London too Newcastle for my mint pair
I have 3 pairs in total , Love the sound when you hit the sweet spot
Hang in for a decent price and a buyer that will apreciate them :)

totally agree, £500 is fair for your pair, and they only reason they haven't sold is because it's summer and there's no-one about/they are spending their money on holidays. Come the autumn these will sell and whoever buys will be delighted.

I think that it's more likely the shipping issue with speakers. They're big, heavy and in this case fragile - otherwise I'd have them.

montesquieu
24-08-2017, 12:31
One Thing Audio are used to shipping these around maybe they could sell you a set of whatever packing materials they use? Or Quad themselves.

Barry
24-08-2017, 12:32
Quad will sell you suitable packaging, but it will cost (a lot).

gerlando
24-08-2017, 16:23
The reason of price is that I need to free some space in my new house as soon as possible, otherwise I would keep them.

I know it's a bargain, but people seem don't understand!

I live in West London, close to the M4, easy to reach, collection shouldn't be an issue...

However, thank you for your moral support!!!:):):)

I know it's easy to say, but I would have bought these - had I not already spent more than my yearly quota of hi-fi budget (including a rather nice pre-amp, ahem !!)

I've sold them on this forum, and the buyer, Damien, is a true gentleman.

I'm very glad these have now sold - and to a good buyer.

Every day this was niggling me as I so would love to have had these speakers. And what with the location being close to me and the price so low I was sorely tempted to grab them. But my wife would have gone apes**t if I had. So thanks to the buyer of reducing my stress.

Yes my wife doesn't like them her trick is sitting off to the side, marking essays or whatever, with Tannoys you can get away with that as the sound bounces around the whole room. With quads you can't. She actively hates them.

I bought two pairs to stack at one point and it almost got to a 'they go or I go' situation.

Shame as they do things no other speaker can manage.

I really must get my act together and convert the double garage (currently used for junk) to a dedicated listening room. That way I can purchase lots of yummy hifi without fear.

Anyone with relevant CAD experience wants to make some cash? No need to be near me.

I heard a story online, a woman put some junk from her garage on the street with a sign, "free to a good home". And it just sat. So she changed the sign on an old fridge, "$50 works well! Inquire inside", and by morning someone had relieved her of it!
