Hi Guys,
I've not popped in here for quite a while so I'm completely out of touch with whats been going on. I'm looking to put together a Raspberry Pi & Dac and hoping someone can point me in the direction of the latest threads, I've tried the search but with the Pi being so popular it's hard to see the wood for the trees.
I'm really interested in what Dac/s are recommended (is the IQ Audio Pi-DAC+ still the flavour of the month?) and what output method (RCA?) is preferred.
If anyone could provide me with some links I'd be most grateful.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Darren. I've just shifted your thread to Digital Expressions, where it needs to be.

#Dave - Thanks for the link, I remember the thread from last year, looks like it's progressed quite a bit.
#Geoff. Sorry, thanks for moving it, I always seem to post in the wrong area .

Hi Darren, I have a variety of pi/DAC combinations, all running from a pi3 running piCorePlayer/LMS, I'd recommend piCorePlayer as a very reliable code base for both server and player, or both if you want a one box solution...

...as for hardware I have an IQ, which has been replaced by an Audiophonics V2 DAC, better SQ...

Or alternatively if you want to use your own DAC this is excellent...I have the digi+ pro

Thank you very much for this Will, exactly what I was hoping for regarding DAC / OS / PSU opinions / alternatives.
My Oppo uses Sabre DAC's so the idea of the Audiophonics DAC (for a standalone Pi) is appealing, thanks for the reading material.
I also replaced my IQaudio, but with the Allo Boss, which I'd thoroughly recommend (I haven't heard the Audiophonics DACs).
Or you could spend more and get the new Audiophonics ES9028 DAC, and tell us if you think it's worth it. :)
I bought a Rasberry pi (with IQ) from one of the senior guys here and it took me ages to sort out the thing - cause i m a luddite !
On seeing this thread i got the act together and with some help have got it running - using piCore player.
I am quite pleased with the sound quality.
My intention is to use it in another system in the house under the one Network .
I ve had Squeezer in my handphone and am glad that it works to select songs on the Rasberry/piCore.
I must declare that i thought the thing would be able to access LMS (on a Synology server) independent of the Squeezebox
I have to have the Squeezebox on and have to Synchronise it with the piCore player for it to work.
A bit of a bummer

That sounds like you have something not quite right with the setup, although what I couldn't tell you.
I haven't got a RasPi to play with, so I'm ignorant of how to set up PiCorePlayer.

...are you running multiple instances of LMS?
The piCorePlayer/Squeezelite will connect automatically to the first version of LMS it finds either locally or on the network...
Edit; do you use the web interface to control LMS and the players?
thanks Stratmangler and Will for your assistance.
No Will i believe its a single LMS
I will seek local help.
Ta v much lads
Apologies for hi-jacking this thread but is the Rpi3 better (in sq terms) than the Rpi2?
Thanks.
R.
Has anyone tried a 12v 'car-type' battery with a 12V to 5V 'cigar lighter' USB for a RPi3?
Thanks
