Back looking for a cheapo project I can pick up and sort out for my 19 year old lad who is getting into vinyl. I'm thinking a Lenco, Dual or maybe a DJ deck like a Vestax.

Sold a Dual 1019 for peanuts a year or two ago that would have done nicely but such is life.

Looking for something fairly foolproof that will sound reasonable and not do his records too much damage, till he proves he is a genuine enthusiast and not a fashion victim.

I have plenty cartridges kicking around to focusing on a TT for now.

I have a Dual CS-503.1 in very reasonable condition going spare. It's semi automatic in that the platter starts when you lift the arm. I got it from a friend and gave it a good cleanup including replacing the belt. It seems to work well. Say £75 if you come and collect it from Woking in Surrey.

I have a Technics sl-q202. Can be auto or semi-auto, DD, Quartz lock. With headshell and good dust cover. Sturdy machine, works well but I need to slim down (before I buy some more!) £55. Staines area.

P.s. If that's not good enough I've got an SP25 Mk3 too!

Just to say I'm now sorted with Mark's Technics, got it running at the weekend and it sounds good.

Must say I was tempted by the Trio but a bit far to collect and I've had recent experiences with TTs and couriers, enough do do me for a while.

I'll probably still keep my eye open for a GL75 even if I don't pass it on I like to have one around to play with.

You've got your idler now, but I have this one on offer if ever you wanted to tinker with a Lenco on the cheap.

I don't hop on to these forums too much so perhaps won't see your reply - so an alternative way of getting hold of me is cdgeorge-at-gmail-dot-com

The GL69 is not in an ordinary plinth - it's part of a portable unit so is effectively in a carry case enclosure - the player itself in the enclosure is complete of course! The speed stability is not perfect either - but plays records apart from that just fine.

Cheers Ian, I am indeed a member on the Lenco forum (indeed I have a P2P arrived yesterday bought from there - already in discussions with someone from this thread for a suitable donor machine). I did see this but was overkill for my son. If he really gets into vinyl seriously then I'll do something smilar for him perhaps. For £300 this is a bargain and a half.

Crikey that is nice, just off to register there & have a closer look with a view to purchase.

Is it really that peculiar colour of green? All the ones I have seen have been gray coloured.

Cream looks good.

One I did a while back. The change in colour across the platter is just lighting effects.

Nice job on the SME cut-out!

I was always too nervous to take everything off the top plate in case I couldn't get it back on again, so I never painted one. I'm going to have to figure it out though for the PTP2.
