Well, late up today at 09:20 but had a few handfuls of Fruit and Fibre and coffee of course. Now it's 12:20 and I'm feeling a little rumbly sensation in the old tummy. More coffee I think as it kind of staves off hungry feelings.

My ideal brekkie is proper American waffles with butter and maple syrup. But you can't get that round here. Second choice is doughnuts. Must be ring, with the glaze.

Third alternative: Pint of milk, full fat of course, and a Mars bar. That's a good option if you need to get it down quick and under cover.

Lol... Not if you buy them from your local butcher. I'm not talking about supermarket shite.

We buy our sausages and bacon from our local butcher, so know exactly where the meat comes from and what goes into his sausages. The quality is vastly superior to anything you can buy in a supermarket, and also cheaper, as there's no packaging to pay for! :)

:( my nearest farm is miles away , Dagenham is devoid of farms ;)

Marco
19-08-2017, 09:17
Not a farm daftee, a town centre independent butcher, who gets his meat direct from a farm, such as those located within the Heathway shopping mall.

Are you familiar with where that is in Dagenham? :)

Too many folks just do all their shopping in supermarkets, and seem to ignore the independent shops in their local towns, where often much higher quality produce is available. It's the way folks used to shop at one time, using butchers, fishmongers, bakers and fruiterers - who all specialised in what they produced and sold.

Marco.

Audio Al
19-08-2017, 10:27
Are you familiar with where that is in Dagenham?

Yes I am , one butcher in the mall , he buys in carcasrs and butchers them , question is what does he do with the bits of pork and beef that you cant identify as a cut or joint of meat = sosages, burgers , mince etc :spew:

Marco
19-08-2017, 10:40
Well, any *decent* butcher will make his own sausages with the highest possible (quality) meat content, not fill them with all sorts of shite - that is if they value their reputation, and you can tell by looking at the sausages if they're any good or not, and also how they cook.

Therefore, I don't know how good or otherwise that butcher in the mall is, but if he conforms to the above, his sausages should be delicious. If not, then order some on-line. There are many high-quality on-line butchers/delicatessen shops, where top-quality sausages can be purchased and shipped in appropriate packaging, to keep them fresh.

A cooked breakfast simply isn't complete, without a couple of quality bangers! :)

Marco.

Absolutely, Barry. There's simply no comparison. We all need to support out local independent shops more, instead of just lazily using supermarkets, out of convenience, as the rewards of doing so are significant!

We use Hugh John Jones, in Wrexham, who are fantastic: https://www.nkprovisions.co.uk/latest-news/national-butchers-week/hugh-john-jones/

Surely the continental breakfast would've contained bread rolls and croissants, so why would you have the same things for lunch, or is it just because they were free? ;)

Marco.

That would be a continental 'brunch'.

Marco.

Because they were free, and because snaffling rolls etc saves the bother of tracking down somewhere to buy lunch when you're out for the day.

Marco

Joe

Lol... We are *such* very different people, Joe!

Marco.

Indeed. I'm more like Macca, really. Our minds work in the same way, to the extent that, until he started banging on about ancient aliens building the pyramids, I thought he was my long-lost twin brother.

Marco
21-08-2017, 21:46
Lol... It's good that we're different, as it would be a boring world if we were all the same.

Anyway, I'll explain what I meant by my precious comment...

Firstly, I'm not a tightwad, so regardless of the bread rolls and croissants being 'free', having eaten some for breakfast, I wouldn't want the same thing again for lunch.

Secondly, when I'm on holiday abroad, lunch is *the* highlight of the day, so I'd be finding some lovely little family-run restaurant, serving superb local cuisine, and eating there for lunch - screw the rolls! ;)

Marco.

Joe
21-08-2017, 21:57
It's partly because I'm a tightwad, but mainly because our holidays tend to centre around visiting archaeological sites, which involves a lot of hoofing around, often in fairly remote places where lunch venues are thin on the ground. Then we have an evening meal where we can relax and nurse our blisters.

Marco
21-08-2017, 22:17
Cool, I get that, although we prefer eating our main meal at lunchtime.

Don't mind visiting some archaeological sites myself, although Del's into it more than me. For example, when we went to the Orkney islands, we spent a lot of time visiting the brochs, such as here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broch_of_Gurness and also the Standing Stones of Stenness: http://www.orkneyjar.com/history/standingstones/index.html

If you haven't been there before, it's a stunningly beautiful island. Lots of history, too :)

I'm not really a coffee connoisseur, but I do like to bring back tea or coffee from places I visit. I would rate Cameroonian coffee as perfectly acceptable; it depends on how much it has been roasted. Some of the nicest coffee I have tasted came from Laos (Oh, and a short-lived ground coffee blend by Whittards called "Pacific Islands".)

They are butter beans which frankly I am not keen on.

However, left to veg in the tomato, spice and olive oil mix they become outstanding. £2.20 for what is two protions they are nay cheap.

But eat one cold out of the jar and you will be amazed. Best beans I have ever come across in my life period. Worth the money.

They tend to explode when microwaved and taste a tiny bit better if you want hot by pan warming.

Massively recommend.

Nice big mug of latte and a glass of Polish banana, peach and apple drink. Slice of sour-dough toast with creamy Polish butter and French apricot jam, and from Lidl's Spanish week, a gorgeous Ensaimada (sweet pastry whirl):

Tony, they're selling them in Lidl, in bags, as part of their Spanish week: https://www.google.com/search?q=ensaimadas+lidl&client=firefox-b&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=_5tKcWJKkwJFoM%253A%252CgnMmiAnt6SVFMM%252C_&usg=__Y5M8ieqCW1j1Kgboj1ayNsj6pN0%3D&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiJvJHZwZfbAhUnJcAKHUOmBuUQ9QEIOjAD#imgr c=_5tKcWJKkwJFoM:

Lol, nice one. Don't hang about though, as they tend to sell out fast. You'll find them in the middle isle of the store, with a load of the other Spanish stuff ;)

The fresh apricots and strawberry jam this time should hopefully not make everything the same colour for Geoff!:eyebrows:;)

You can't beat a nice frothy cappuccino, first thing in the morning......

P.S That Compal peach juice, from our local Portuguese deli, is to die for, so thick and fruity. It's a veritable taste of the sun! :)

Work is on Shut Down for half-term week, so it’s holiday brekkies!

Trying to be moderately healthy these days, I usually swim for 20 mins every morning at 6:30, so I NEED my breakfast [emoji4]

White corn tacos with Lincolnshire sausage, chorizo and tomato, poached egg, basic guacamole and hot sauce to top it off.

I can’t believe I completely forgot the HashBrowns I made from scratch this morning too. Found them in the covered frying pan after we’d finished! [emoji23] Ah well, that’s tomorrows brekky sorted. [emoji4]

I’ve had this on my mind for weeks now and finally got the time to do it.

Ensaimadas cooked in a traditional style.

Started yesterday evening by making the dough. Then left it overnight to prove.

This is what they looked like after proving

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181014/fb643830c23d4ff7238efb4a8ef47b8f.jpg

Then into the oven this morning for 15 minutes.

Then a bit of icing sugar before being devoured.
