I'm always on the lookout for a bargain and knowing how well the SR370 performs I had to give this SR355 that turned up on eBay a go.
After a cheeky bid was accepted it arrived safe and sound this morning and the first job after unpacking was to replace the damaged mains cable. That done and a check round and set the VTF it was duely plumbed in. I wasn't expecting much but surprisingly sweet sounds filled the room even with the very elderly Ortofon OM10 cartridge it gave a decent account of itself.

Other than the cartridge the weak link is the arm, it's a weird mix of some very nicely made parts like the well machined bearing pillar, counter weight and the arm wand and cheap and nasty plastic items such as the mounting base and the whole cuing assembly. It looks like a Rega type mounting so fitting something better is an option.

The speeds are rock steady and the oilless bearing is smooth and silent. The plinth isn't the heavy weight composite material like the 370's but a vinyl covered compressed woodchip affair with a substantial 1/4" aluminium plate covering the entire top surface that seems to take care of adding some mass. The other bonus is the perspex cover is in good shape.

On the whole it would seem to be a bit of a bargain and with some fettling could sound pretty good. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170803/2f602b56d85524c9005b1afaccfce69a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170803/2fe578beb4db1c4099da7138ffb08c11.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170803/6d8590354f67f27dad7a7f6804b33f79.jpg
