Actually, it's not looking too bad at all out there. Bright and sunny and the wind has died down!

Heavy showers here this morning with quite gusty winds. Feeling quite cool as well.

struth
01-08-2017, 12:52
nowt to write home about here.. about 15c and showery

walpurgis
01-08-2017, 14:56
It finally stayed dry and wind free long enough today for me to get up on the garage and extend the roof. Been waiting weeks to do this. There's no way I was going to be up there weilding 3 metre corrugated ally sheets in the wind!

Waterproofed all the fixing and old nail holes. Got to flash the back against the wall yet, then extend the framework underneath, so I can move the walls. Then extend the concrete floor.

hifi_dave
01-08-2017, 16:21
That made me chuckle - I did just that many years ago - tried to repair a corrugated iron roof in a heavy wind. I ended up on the drive, unharmed apart from a lot of bruising..

Could have been worse - I could have chopped my head off.

walpurgis

Daft Bugger! :D

Folk just don't realise how dangerous this can be, even two handed.

a maintenance guy picked up a sheet of boarding on forth bridge that had blown off a truck. put it in back and sat on it in back while they drove back. he got blown over the side. He was lucky and survived but took a while to get to him

walpurgis
02-08-2017, 08:46
Dunno what it's going to do today. It's 19C, gloomy and looks like it may rain. Well it is August! :)

Absolutely lashing it down now, windy with it. Around 16c. On-line shopping beckons today. :)

walpurgis
02-08-2017, 10:26
It feels more like February out there. I'll be needing a waterproof jacket by the look of things. Good job I got that garage roof refixed yesterday, It's blowing up a gale now.

walpurgis
02-08-2017, 13:49
That was a waste of time. I took the dog out in the car to go to the park and it started pouring and hasn't stopped since, so he didn't get a walk. He hates getting wet, funny pooch. :D

struth

Been dry with some sun all day but heaven just opened full on there. Anyone out in it will have got a wash ;). My neighbour for one

walpurgis
05-08-2017, 16:03
We've had showers on and off. Had to stop work in the garden. I was drilling holes in the wall with a mains drill. Not ideal in a downpour.

Right now is be very happy with your summer - temps in 40's here! Bloody awful and no way of playing vinyl! I don't trust valves and cantilever suspension in these temperatures.

I am back to work on Monday after having had the last 2 weeks off and over that period the weather has been as bad as I can ever remember it.

There has only been one warm and sunny day and it has rained on all of the others.

Really depressing weather if you are a sun lover like myself.

walpurgis
06-08-2017, 11:11
Holiday period during the British summer. Rubbish weather is traditional! ;)

walpurgis
07-08-2017, 19:22

Got my rain at last - too much of it. Very large puddles forming on the drive, which I've not seen the like of since last year. Still, the scarified lawn is looking nice and green now.

It looks better out there today. Sunny and dry. Temperature is 18C and rising.

We had a whole day of rain yesterday, some of it pretty heavy and it got down to 13C (55F) late afternoon. Which is ridiculous for mid August. It might as well have been February!

struth
10-08-2017, 08:57

The BBC TV is forecasting "27 degrees" in the SE tomorrow but our local BBC weather site is for 17 degrees and cloud. Be interesting to see which is correct tomorrow.

Absolutely glorious day here, solid blue skies all-round and pretty warm too, at 22°C.

As it was such a lovely day, I decided to go for a run and take my dad out for lunch at a lovely country pub, The Windmill Inn, near Shrewsbury: http://www.windmillatrowton.com/

Stunning view from the beer garden at the back:

...which we sat and enjoyed today in the sunshine, whilst slurping some local ales and munching scrumptious food!

The weather is reasonable at the moment. Bright and dry, but none too warm. It's likely to be rubbish for the coming few days though.

Same here, but it's to pish down later, and nearly all day tomorrow! So just about to go and cut the grass, while I get a chance :)

Wet here, and likely to remain like this all week. Fortunately garden is all done for now and wont need much til end of season. Just as well. Lol.

Lol - wish the grass would stop growing, even though the 'season' is largely over! I've got a 'park' here to cut... I usually need to keep doing it until mid October, before it slows down growing significantly.

Yes that growing grass is a nuisance, was just thinking about cutting it, but no "park" here, anyway, I think it's still a bit wet.

It's 'on the turn'. Dark clouds rolling in and completely overcast now. It's gonna rain!

Yeah. But you pay more council tax than me, so they reward you by keeping the weather nice a bit longer.

Use a growth inhibitor? Probably costlier than it's worth.

I have heard of this for hedges, not tried it, or thought of for grass.

lol! That's all they do, and, they've stopped doing that now, becoming overcast now!

That might be handy for controlling 'morning wood', lol ;) But no, nature will be nature....

That's it then. Summer's over! There's gloom and rain out there, it'll be like this with varying degrees of chill until April now.

Was raining overnight, but bright and sunny here at the moment. We'll see how long it lasts!

Answer: most of the day, as the sun is still shining now! Apart from a huge downpour, around 11.30am, which lasted about 20 mins, it's been dry all day :)

So far so good. It's bright and sunny with blue sky, but the forecast is not good. There'll be rain later I expect.
