If only I could get shot of that one, I get loads of tiny sycamore trees off it in my garden in spring then all the leaves in autumn!

Any chance of digging that up ? I've got just the space for it.
Anyone bugged (!) by ants this year ? I've never seen anything like the number of ants nests in the lawns, each one spaced about 12 inches from the other in rows across the grass. They are also in the gravel drive in huge numbers and starting nests in each of the large urns and containers.

I've been trialling a home made weedkiller this week which seems to be as effective but faster acting than Pathclear or Roundup. It's 40% white Vinegar a tablespoon or so of salt and washing up liquid and then top up with water. The weeds appear to be dead within two days.

Cheers, we bought a garden corner sofa a couple of months ago and i am really missing lounging around under the grape vine with a glass or two of home brew - hopefully September will be sunny :cool:

I can imagine that would be nice, trouble is we seem to have mislaid the Sun.
It's chucking it down and 15c here in NW Essex.

22c, a bit of sun, finished work in garden (another cut :eek: grass is glowing like the clappers) so on my sofa with a glass of home brew (single hop - “Citra” , still a bit cloudy only been in bottle for a couple of weeks, but tastes good)

Hi all, just found this thread it’s great gardening and music what more could I ask for :D
The music is fine, it's the gardening bit I'm not so sure about. I suppose few beers with the music, would rather make thoughts of gardening fade away altogether :D.

Love gardening. I could watch it all afternoon, and often do. Though I have taken on the lawn mowing now I'm 'semi' retired and bought a cordless jobbie.

A plastic owl someone lent me when I had a third floor flat that was empty for a time, Olly stood on the balcony to deter pigeons nesting there.
They used him as a perch / toilet.

Cleared raised beds yesterday - thousands of white fly swarming all over the place when i cleared the brassicas.

strong smelling plants are good.. spray your plants often with a soapy mixture. that will help kill the young. water an washing up mix usually
Grass was very green under the million or so leaves I’d just picked up off it.

Bloody squirrel has been digging up my runner bean seeds/seedlings - start again, but i have put some coffee grounds over the seeds as it seems that squirrels don’t like the smell.

No, he didn't do it either. Some other anonymous doggie did it - he was dragging it into the garden to tidy up.

Puppy/garden update:
Given that grapes are toxic to dogs, and puppy explores EVERYTHING with her mouth (just been in raised bed eating mange tout) i decided that the grape vine must go:

Note, bit of vine bark in mouth. I quite like the unrestricted view but now need to put some bamboo shading on top of the pergola :)
My houseplants like to show off how well they can do on their own when I’m away. Here we see the growing race between the spider plant and the purple passion being soundly won by the latter (although spidey wins the bushiness prize).

I can't seem to grow Crocus in my garden. We have hundreds of Snowdrops but about a dozen Crocus and getting fewer every year.

After a general tidy up. Rhododendron not so good this year and my ferns have struggled. Only one out of six hydrangeas survived the winter.
