Never heard one.
It might be worth asking Gazjam of this parish - IIRC he has one.
My opinion - MFA = Music First Audio? You'd be hard pushed to find anything that neutral.

the densen would be worth comparing to the classic mark 1 . it may be a sideways move or it may be an upgrade . wonder if anyone has one you could borrow

some guys raving about the herron pre here

http://www.audioshark.org/pre-amps-9/new-herron-audio-vtsp-360-vacuum-tube-stereo-preamplifier-12302.html

of course a massive upgrade is to get jonathan to change your v1 to a v2 . flippin big improvement in performance

You maybe right the MFA classic v1 is nice.

Hi Phil, I had seen the Densen B-200 review, The herron pres are expensive.
I forgot I could get the MFA tvc's upgraded to the version 2 as used in the MFA classic v2,
just spoken to Johnathan and it looks like that will be the way I go.

I used to own one and had it for a good few years.

I liked it, but I sometimes found it a bit bright.

I replaced it with a Croft pre-amp and that was better.

i had a copper v2 before the modwright and it was so good . I also upgraded my mark one silver wired to a mark 2 silver wired and it was a brilliant improvement but I am quite happy with copper v2

Its the earlier generation Densen pre I have, the DM20.
Shipped it to Densen for a service, where they fully recapped it and fitted new transformers.
Pretty much a new amp when I got it back!

Used with my 300B SET power amp, the sounds as good as I'll ever need an Amp to sound.
Densen always used to say their amps had 'Air guitar factor' and thats a great way to describe the sound.

Hi Phil,
What would you say the V2 has over the V1 copper ?.

Good to know,thank you.
Part of me really want to stay with the MFA, part of me wants to try something different.

more dynamics , more slam and just more of everything

http://www.tnt-audio.com/ampli/musicfirst_pre_mk2_e.html

if you want to move to a modwright pre , they are beautifully built and have a different presentation to mfa

http://www.bd-audio.co.uk/used-and-ex-demonstration/

i had this one earlier this year and it was not bad at all . it has home theater bypass and is active . the mfa mark 2 will still be a bit better though i think but it has not remote of course and is very neutral

sorry the pics have gone thanks to photobuckets new policy !!

I have had the MFA Mk1 on a couple of occasions, and can confirm the Mk2 is a worthwhile upgrade ... more dynamic, better bass, more 'hear through'. The Mk2 is one of only a handful of components that I really regret selling.
