We are hopefully selling our boat tomorrow... oops actually today, Saturday
Now do I spend the extra money on hifi or not ?
However I can't think what I would buy next, any suggestions ?
I thought about 'upgrading' my Living Voice's to a model further up the range as I just love the Auditoriums... :)
You are asking the wrong crowd! You know everyone here will say yes! If you are talking about a speaker upgrade then it must be a sizable sum. New speakers or a new amp can change your system more than any other move.
There is always something that needs upgrading. How about a new phono cartridge? Or phono preamp? My recent CD player upgrade made a world of difference! Personally I've never spent a cent on stereo that I didn't feel was well worth it. I always worry if it's worth the money? Will I appreciate the difference? And I always do. And if you buy used, you can usually recoup your money if need be.

The 100 grand or so your probably get for the boat will buy something very nice Bev Anywhere near the mark ?
Or you could buy another electric bike, higher spec ?
I've got a nice pair of Klipsch KG3's sitting here doing nothing at the moment.......

If you are happy with the sound then leave it and enjoy what you have, so No, leave the money for something else.
Regarding the biggest change being amp and speakers :sofa: I disagree, source. The amp and speakers can only give you what they are given. Source upgrades are in my view always worth doing.
Hope the sale goes well, health to enjoy your system and money.

May I suggest having a dem of your auditorium speakers with Border Patrol amps and at the same time comparing with the Avatar's or obx version, I think you might like them.

Good news, Bev. Always nice to have some extra pocket money to spend! :)
My advice? If you're already happy with your system, and the money from the boat sale is sufficient, forget about hi-fi and buy yourself a nice car, perhaps treat yourself to a classic Merc or something else you've always wanted, or a new motor bike, or go on a nice holiday somewhere with Colin.
Make some nice memories together, while you can, doing something you both enjoy, is my advice, as you never know what life's going to throw at you. Plenty of time for hi-fi later, but right now, I'd spend the cash on doing something nice together, which you can look back on in future with great fondness

funnily enough 2 days ago i was looking at the boat adverts in brixham . they had a lovely big 1974 boat for under 7k and then they had boats at over 1.25 million . i would have a nervous breakdown leaving a 1.25 mill boat in a harbour !!
Good news, Bev. Always nice to have some extra pocket money to spend! :)

Excellent advice there Marco.
So Bev, take yourself and Colin away on a world cruise, the memories of the sights you will see will stay with you forever. :)
I like that everyone has automatically assumed that this boat sale is a lottery win. :)
Bev I think you should buy a controlling stake in IBM. If there is any left over buy a Lear jet for knocking about in.

Thank you all for your suggestions
The boat sold easily however it was 17' with an outboard so a world cruise is out im afraid
However we are going away soon so might just treat ourselves to some meals out etc, that'd be nice :)

Lol... Not at all. The main point being made is that there's more to life than just hi-fi! :)

Lol... Deadly so!
Too many anally-retentive nerds/'hi-fi victims' around these parts (and others like them), whose lives continually revolve around dicking about with bits of kit, whilst the real world passes them by ;)

Don't worry I have my life quite in perspective, I think Colin being unwell for so many years has made that happen, it really does teach you what is important in life ;)
While I love my music/hifi it is definitely NOT the most important thing in my life.. enjoying time together doing things we like is at the forefront of everything
I am buying a little sailing dinghy tomorrow which can be sailed, rowed and motored... a real jack of all trades ...master of none maybe but it's a nice little boat and very cheap... I just can't imagine having absolutely nothing to get out on the water with as we both love it... I also purchased a nice little Honda outboard for it tonight so all ready to go.. the Honda was soooo cheap it was a joke.. my favourite outboard motor of all time... so for just a few hundred £'s we can both get out on the water with very little effort
Can't wait to sail the dinghy as I've never sailed a dinghy before as we got straight into large sailing boats, upto 32', and completely 'missed' the dinghy bit

If you really have to spend money on the system, getting an Airlink balanced mains transformer is great bang for the buck.

Thanks Marco... we will enjoy it especially if this weather continues... We sat on the beach at the boat club today and it was just lovely... We are so lucky to live next to the sea... :)

I'm also thinking about getting myself a little Laser dinghy for some fast fun on the water....
It will probably be a bit too much for Colin but I think I could manage it ok :D if not I can swim ok...

Well we now have a nice little sailing dinghy, outboard and oars etc... so we are back on the water for just £400... bargain indeed... and sorted out our dinghy spot at our club today...
We will be doing a few little jobs on the boat over the next few days, and servicing the Honda outboard, then we are launching into Langstone Harbour.... Colin was not very keen at first but now he can't wait to try it out :D I knew he'd come round to the idea...

It looks like this... however our mainsail is much better as it's quite new and a much better colour/cut.. and one of the Honda outboard
The dinghy has a gunter rig which is fantastic as you have a decent sail area without a very tall mast, the gaff is carried nearly vertical which extends the mast

Indeed... as we are sea sailers we will eventually take it out in the Solent... we just don't care...
If we get on with the 'little' boat we are already thinking about a larger Wayfarer or Wonderer
In our 'larger' boats we have crossed the channel many times to France, which was a real blast.. :D
These are the larger boats we have owned...

However 'smaller' boats are a lot of fun.. and if this weather continues it'll be great to get out on the water again...and for next to nothing money wise... :)

Thanks Brian... however Henley is a just a bit too far for us.... :D
We moved to Portsmouth about 20 years ago, from Stevenage, as we got fed up of travelling so far for the sea and our boat club... we would never move 'inland' now ... we live about 10 minutes from our boat club which is on Langstone Harbour and just a stones throw from the Solent... we love it..

Well we went completely mental today and purchased a lovely Wayfarer set up for racing but we will just use it for cruising about in. Got it from a lovely chap in our boat club
So we now have two boats :doh:
Some people have travelled thousands of miles in these lovely little boats

The small boat looks like a great deal of fun! Closer to the water...

Indeed Isle of Wight is on our radar once we get confident enough in and around Langstone Harbour
Priory Bay, Seaview, IOW to be precise... it's lovely

To the OP, I wouldn't recommend upgrading your system just because funds are there to do so - it's very easy to confuse different with better, especially in the enthusiasm of the moment.

You are quite right there Mark, which is why I haven't and to be honest I'm really happy and settled with the system at the moment.... so boats is where it is at the moment.. :)
