Hi, Firstly, my name is Ian!

I have been involved and interested in quality audio for about 25 years!

Old enough to remember Dolby B&C noise reduction but not 8 track!! lol

I currently spend far too much of my time buying, repairing and improving quality audio equipment from the 80's! My particular fav DAC is the TDA1541A. I have a very highly modified philips CD960. Nearly every pin needing a voltage feed has its own low noise regulator and the output stage has been completely redesigned following extensive internet research! My latest project is a Meridian 207 CDP. Currently has drawer issues caused by a failed motor and limit switches! This player also has the TDA1541A dac ;)

For my sins, I now work in IT heading up a project/ design dept from a technical point of view. My speciality being network design, security and cryptogrophy.

It can be said that I'm at my happiest when the soldering iron is switched on!

I'll try not to make all my posts as long winded as the ones today!

I guess I felt quite strong about some of the points raised ;-)

I've uploaded a few photos of the CD960 and i've just found a few slightly more recent ones (although none without the Mundorf Supremes on the output) .

As for music taste, i'll listen to anything! (almost)

for reference I have a compilation disks with anything from Eva Cassidy to Dire Straits to Floyd to The Eagles. I love Oasis but refuse to put any of their albums on my main system! These albums are reserved for rip to FLAC and playback via the PC with tone control. This is in s desperate attempt to stop the awfully compressed recording causing me pain! Weller is my hero and Miles Hunt (formerly of the wonder stuff (dizzy with Vick Reeves is where you amy know him from) has an awsome collection of acoustic guitar tracks. I also like jack johnson and newton faulker. I have vivaldi in my collection too! Depeche Mode and lots of synth type 80's albums. The cult, the cure... confused?! PSB and Erasure, Heaven 17,Flock of Seaguls. More recently Kaiser chiefs, Green Day then before that there was The Verve, Supergrass and Blur!

i take it you were born in the sixties and seen to have very simular tastes to me, not sure about Oasis( to up themselves for me) prefered what Damon has done from Bur onwards;) i have got lots of weller and especially 80's stuff, which is what i bought when a teenager.

Just missed the 60's! 1971 to be precise!

Parents had the old 8track cassette tho and mates with older brothers shaped the way for my music tastes.

Jonboy - we've a lot of music in common - I've never bought any Oasis out of principle (bunch of tw@ts) - Ian, us too, but not Oasis, obviously! (I'm a 1969 model, btw)

What can I say, I love the music but indeed there are issues with the brothers! Somewhat disturbed I think!

As for the recordings, they are awfull! The production team must have been deaf for the entire recording career! 120db (guess) into normal CD bandwith just wont do! Google "The Loudness War" and read the wikipedia article!

It makes very disapointing reading!
