I went shopping in Cardiff yesterday with my other half, buying pressies for her son, we bought him headphones and records. Despite a good wander round HMV and headphone retailers, all I came home with for myself was a nose and ear hair trimmer.
That's a sign of old age right?

Yeah. You're an old git now Rich!
If you don't already, you'll end up needing spectacles for reading and driving. And eventually, you'll actually need them to find your glasses.
you need one of them mate... when young its clearosil then you grow into the hair trimmer.:D
According to Billy Connolly the sign of getting old is when you realise that you vocalise when getting up or sitting down.
For me that happened in my late thirties. However when there becomes a pressing need for electronic hair removal equipment you realise that you are actually already a good way into the process.

I don't do that.

Unfortunately I do that too, just a little 'ooh' when I stand up, accompanied by about a dozen joints clicking.
I know getting old is inevitable, but I'm only bloody 47!

I already wear spectacles, I wear young cool looking ones in an anti aging bid, I probably look exactly what i look like, an old greying man in trendy glasses :)

Good to know I'm not the only one.

Lol... Sorry to hear that, mate!
What is this - the moaning old duffers thread? :D
I'm 52, in August, and thankfully suffer from none of the conditions mentioned here; in fact I genuinely feel as good now as I did when I was 35! Especially now that I've lost weight and become fitter, from power-walking for six miles every day and also using an exercise bike :)
I don't need to wear glasses yet either (few grey hairs) and take no pills for anything. The only evidence so far of me growing old is a receding hairline! And that I can handle... :eyebrows:
As you were, granddads! :wheniwasaboy:
Marco.
Ha - but hopefully not until I'm at least 70! :D
My dad's still going strong (at 84), and looks and behaves like someone 15 years younger [it's the healthy Italian living, lol], and my granddad lived (and was fit as a fiddle) until he was 93, so there's hope! ;)
Marco.
Seriously though, it's largely about being looked after by your parents (and later on looking after yourself) when you're young. That means staying fit and active, getting plenty of exercise and having a healthy diet.
Over the years, it's like your body builds up a toughness and 'inner strength', to draw upon when needed. That's one of the main reasons Grant, why despite your various ailments, you're still alive now! :)
In that respect, hereditary illnesses aside and out with of the natural ageing process [which is different for everyone], I'm a great believer in what happens (or not) in your childhood and youth repays you later in your adult life and old age.

My eyesight was razor sharp until I reached forty. I even used to do 'micro writing' that most people needed a magnifying glass to read, but that's all long gone and I can't see anything properly now without specs. And being exceptionally fit did not help there.
Nope, not at all. Everyone ages differently. However, out with of the natural ageing process, what I outlined in my last post definitely pays dividends later in life.
A big thing for me was not smoking at all, or drinking heavily, and looking after both my eyesight and hearing [protecting my ears at gigs and not straining my eyes too often looking at screens, etc], which is probably one of the main reason why both are still pretty good :)
Also, I tended not to get into too many scrapes when I was young, and thus sustain any serious injuries, which when you're older can come back to haunt you!
Marco.
Can help but doesnt always. Hardly had a days ilness bar the usual damage you get from hard work and a few nasty chest infections. Now there is not 2 bits hanging right

I was humping paving slabs about the other day. They now feel twice as heavy as they did when I used to lay them for a living! :D
I carried 300 pound kerb stones on my shoulder regularly. Trying that would probably cripple me now.
I cry. Does that count?
Is your mailbox full Grant ?

Heh-heh... It's not the 'hanging' bit that's the problem, eh old chap, but the 'standing' (to attention)!

Good on you!
The worst thing I ever did was get a desk job, I've been sitting on my arse all day for the last 4 years and it has taken its toll. I'm getting an exercise bike for my birthday next month, I'm looking forward to losing a bit of weight and getting fitter again.
The one thing I do have is a full head of thick hair, it doesn't count for much though :)

That's the key, Rich. Sitting on your arse all day, eating shit, is effectively condemning you [as in anyone with that sort of lifestyle] to an early grave! It's sooooo bad for you. Trust me, if you get on that bike and get fitter, and MOVE more and lose weight, most of your aches and pains will disappear :)
Marco.
