Pair of Tannoy Berkeley MkII speakers for sale together with custom made SDS stands. £1200 ono. Now reduced to £1100 ono

The 15" K-series 3828 drivers are in superb condition having been re-coned at Lockwoods by a previous owner.

At the same time he also had the cabinets refinished in a black shellac and lined the upper portion of the cabinets with dynamat so they are pretty inert (and heavy!)

I had a tech bypass the energy and roll off controls at the level position. It's an easily reversible mod though.

I'm selling them complete with the SDS stands but I do also have the original plinths which are on castors. Apart from placing the speaker at the correct height, the spiked stands are made from constrained layer damped steel and do a great job of preventing the cabinets from transmitting low frequency energy into the floor by converting it to heat.

Cosmetically, the stands are unmarked and the cabinets are very presentable. I'd say 7/10. The grills are unmarked and the hard to find Tannoy badges are present. The drivers themselves look almost mint. 9.5/10

Can be auditioned in Giffnock near Glasgow. Collection only.

Very nice, shame you are located in Glasgow... perhaps a mile or two, too far from Wiltshire. But good luck with the sale[emoji106]

It might be good to point out that these are the later Berkeley Mk.II. Very nice too! :)

Peter and Andrew, thanks for your comments. They're well worth the drive based on sq alone but where else will you find a modern looking black pair with nice grey grilles? :) I rented a van and drove to 'neutral territory' in Lancashire to meet up with the owner who drove 100 miles north. Sadly I can't make a similar offer as my car won't take the pair of them as it has a boot rather than a hatch.

Thanks Geoff. I've edited the ad.

Me too.... don't think they would fit in an Audi TTS.... plus a 750 mile round trip.

As I said before, they will sell to the right buyer... perhaps nearer than I .

If they were HPD Drivers, perhaps that would be a different matter.

Peter

I rate the 3 series drive units very highly. My Mk.II Cheviots with the 3128 drivers sound better than the 12" HPD and 12" Monitor Gold speakers I've owned.

Thanks for that assessment / recommendation regarding the drivers. Tempted, but the distance is really an issue... Very costly, even at the reduced price.

I seriously covet these. A real pity that there doesn't seem to be a way to box them up and ship them south.

I've heard these in Paul's house and they sound and look amazing, if I was looking for a pair of speakers these would have been collected by now, I amazed Paul's selling them.

GLWTS Paul.

PS, I've a van and could help with transporting these to around Carlise-ish.

Seriously good speakers Peter, not just saying that, I was completely taken by them, at the time I had a pair of Harbeth PSR's which were stunning speakers but Paul's speakers were a completely different sound not better just different, (I remember feeling the bass in my chest but Paul wasn't playing them loud) and fantastic to listen to easily as good as the Harbeth's IMO

There's a website (sorry can't recall the name exactly) where you can get a van driver to pick up the speakers and deliver them, it's for guys doing long trips and who are trying to fill their van from say Glasgow to London so you just put up your details and a few van drivers contact you with a price.

Cheers

Me too! I'm surprised we never ran into each in Seville. I can't believe you were at the other two. You don't look old enough.

It's not the distance per se that puts people off. It's the time. The roads can get badly congested.

I recently drove from Glasgow to West Wales (Little Haven) 400 miles took me about nine hours going and ten and a half on the way home.

Takes me seven hours to drive Glasgow>Cambridge, knocks the shit out of you mate and that's only about 270 miles, I'm usually knackered for two days afterwards.

Aye Paul, my dad took me to The two EC finals, I went in place of my Granda to Lisbon, he died earlier that year.

Milan was terrbile, pished with rain the whole time and there were transport strikes on in the city when we arrived, still the second biggest game Celtic ever played in though, should have won that match and would have if it had gone to a replay.

I was at the EC semi-final with Milan too when Dixie Deans blootered the penalty over the bar and the 6-2 SCF with Hibs at Hampden, went to both of those games myself, got lifted over the turnstile for both of them.

Yes indeed chaps. The nice man who drove up from Newcastle this evening did get a bargain. I had to discount them quite heavily in the hope of getting them out of the living room before a visit by family from abroad this Friday. However, given that I got two very satisfying years from the Berkeleys, I don't mind taking a loss. You can't win them all and they were worth every penny for the pleasure they brought.
