Anyone has any stories to share regarding first impressions of the re-imagined/remixed Sgt. Pepper's?

I grew up with that record, so I have every little detail etched into my memory. Many people are raving how now they can hear more details, but after listening to the new remix, I remain confused -- I haven't really heard much new details. The thing that mostly makes this remix different is the panning. Also, they seem to have applied a bit of sugarcoating in the mastering stage, to make it more appealing to the bulk of the younger crowd.

Mind you, I heard it only on CD; some claim that LP is much less limited/compressed, but I haven't heard the LP yet.

The CD isn't compressed.

It is mastered pretty loud though, and limited too, to stop overload peaks.
The compression you hear is what was used in the original sessions, and is a lot more apparent because of the overall high volume level.

From the horse's mouth...
