Glorious day, finally got garden a bit tidier

Lol... Del's off on half term, so we've been round at my dad's for lunch, sunning ourselves in his garden, and it was roasting! And it's STILL bloody roasting... Currently 25°C! :eek:

If I need to spread my wings a bit my girlfriend has a third of a acre (which thankfully she pays someone to look after).
Warm here too. With a caressing breeze.

Yup. Been 28C most of the day. Bit on the warm side for me. Spent a few hours pointing up the crazy paving again. Nearly done. Got to watch it though as I burn easily.

Dunno who the genius was that thought soil filled paving gaps were a good idea. I've been pulling out weeds and mud non stop!

Yesterday visited Maldon on the Blackwater estuary. Had lunch in a quiet little bistro we discovered there last year, and enjoyed a couple of Peroni beers sat outside in the shade.
Visited some charity shops: one had an unbelievably good selection of LPs in very good condition and at a price, both of which put the local boot sales to shame.
Then home for a massive salad, pain paysan and some more Peroni.

Pissing down here today, so we went to our local antiques centre, just outside Wrexham town centre, where we're just back from: http://www.bryn-y-grog.com/ we went to collect a piece of hardwood, to go underneath our new kitchen/back door (between the door and the step) and returned home with that, plus 32 used LPs (mostly classical), all in very good condition! :D
That's how you do it Barry! :ner:;)
We've also spied a rather nice solid (medium oak) Victorian folding table, which we'll probably get for our new kitchen. Just need to take some measurements first! Will list the LPs in the classical section later.

Had an almighty downpour here just over an hour ago. It lasted less than ten minutes, but the roads were awash with some proper flooding here and there and when I got back, it had made a right old mess of my cement work! :rolleyes: Never mind, I'll just pull out the top five mil or so and go over that again.
Yep, just had an almighty downpour here as well.
I remember when I helped my late father build his garage, we had dug out and prepared the foundations and had mixed the concrete and laid a beautiful flat surface. Then the rain came, causing the chippings to rise to the surface and spoiling the nice smooth finish to the concrete. :doh:

I do rather like sanding down exterior wood in the light rain tho . keeps the dust down and using wet and dry paper gets a nice surface like today

Just back from a day out to Colwyn Bay and Conwy, where we had lunch at one of our favourite country pubs, thoroughly recommended if anyone should find themselves in that area, the Groes Inn: http://www.groesinn.com/ Stunning food and surroundings! :cool:
Had a look round the castle and then a lovely walk along the beach... Weather-wise, it's been a great day here, and turned into an equally lovely sunny, warm evening, currently just under 19°C. Came back through Trefriw, Denbigh and Mold. Nice run - 130 miles in total.
Just chilling out now watching some TV :)

Me, I'm just shaking off cement dust and polystyrene particles after garden work and packaging an amp! :D
Lol - it was. The scenery around that area is stunning, and the roads were empty! It was a fantastic drive, having the road to ourselves and just enjoying the scenery. So many parts of north wales are just beautiful, and I feel blessed living here :)
Messing around with cement sounds like fun! I spend most of yesterday sanding down door frames, and was also covered in dust... Removing over 100 years worth of paint, to get down to the bare wood, just with a scraper and some paint stripper takes a bit of doing! :eek:
Looking nice now though, after being painstakingly sanded down, so will do the undercoating tomorrow, if I can dodge the rain, as it's supposed to be going to rain heavily.

Been raining since Monday here in Preston
Justy stopped an hour agi; very warm/close though, sweating in the office with the back door wide open haha
Off to Delamere camping tomorrow; the campsite is very well developed and drains superbly, fingers crossed they haven't had the weight of rain we have!
I wanted rain, both huge water butts were empty and my veg was starting to bolt a bit due to the wet/dry weather, but the rain has calmed that down now... Just didn't plan on the pool we've got at the bottom of the garden which has flooded the greenhouse and seems to be making water run up hill :rolleyes: :lol:

Bucketed down for twenty minutes or so at eleven then the sun came out so I took the opportunity to nip our for a haircut.

I'll be driving near to Wrexham come Sunday on our way to Beaumaris for the week, after being down in London from Friday until Sunday (bloody wedding for some bloody extended family person whom I've only met twice and could bloody well do without the hassle/expense and London driving)!!!
Fingers crossed the weather holds out for next week as I want to get some fishing in at Penmon, Rhosneigr and Moelfre!!!

so much greenery and massive trees in between the gardens hard to believe were only 3 miles or so from central london, nice. Hard also to believe

Blazing sunshine here. There's a decent breeze to stop it getting muggy. Temperature is 27C (a bit over 80F) at the moment.
I'll have to take it steady walking the pooch later. He's developed a front left limp. He was OK walking yesterday, maybe jarred it jumping out of the car? He's a bit gangly and awkward.

Bit shit here today, so far [dull, grey and not especially warm], but you can't really tell what it's going to be like properly until lunchtime. Forecast for the weekend, however, is excellent, especially on Father's Day, which is handy if you're planning on doing an outdoor barby! :cool:

I had a lovely Whippet for 13 years and just love all sight hounds and lurchers.. they are so fast and elegant.. and Collie's are so intelligent so a great mix

He's as smart as they come. If I pick up a set of keys, he knows which ones they are. He can tell the sound of the one's to my den and garage or the car keys and goes to the den door or front door accordingly. If I say 'want something nice?', he goes to the fridge and waits for a tasty morsel. Or when I say 'want go go in the garden?', he goes to the back door. The word 'dinner' has him prancing about looking happy! :)

It's hot out there! It was 27C at 9am, it's now 30C, so that's a degree upwards every half hour. If that keeps up, it will be 37C by 2pm. That's body temperature, 98.6F!
about 17c here at moment. overcast. but at least its not scorching
Utterly SCORCHIO here!! Pure blue skies and bright sunshine. Currently 28°C and rising.... :eek:
Too hot for me to sit out in the sun, so luckily our patio area, where the table and umbrella are, is currently in the shade, so that's where we'll be having our lunch.
Del's made some lovely spinach and ricotta-filled cannelloni, with fresh tomato and basil sauce, so we'll be having that (along with some Honeydew melon and Parma ham) with some crusty Italian bread and a nice chilled bottle of Verdicchio!

Phew! It's been just over 31C (88F) nearly all day. Too hot for me. Very uncomfortable.
I know... It was just under 30°C here, at 6pm. Too fooking hot, as there wasn't even much of a breeze. The same is forecast here for tomorrow, but I can't see it lasting much beyond that.

"Comfortably warm" to you (unless it was notably warmer where I was last night, than where you were) is 'uncomfortably sticky', for me. I'd also dispute the "low humidity". It certainly didn't feel that way here.
Woke up twice during the night (which never happens normally) because I was too warm - and that was lying on top of the bed with no sheets on top of me, and just a t-shirt on!
Even with the window beside us left open, there was hardly any air coming in... Nope, whilst to an extent I enjoy the sunshine during the day, you can keep the heat at night - so bring on the rain again! :ner:
Today, it's looking exactly the same way as it was yesterday, which is good, as we're going to be having a barbecue outside, but I think I'll be sleeping downstairs tonight, where it's much cooler, as with the sun baking the house throughout day, and heating up the walls in the process, by bedtime, the upstairs rooms are like a bloody OVEN!!

Plus there is no insulation anywhere. A bit of sun hits the front in the early morning, after that it is in shade all day.
in another house I lived in I had the attic room, which was very spacious but in the summer it was an oven. There was a huge skylight which I would leave open all day when out at work, but even so the temperature in there when I got back in the evenings was often over 40 degrees C. Fortunately it was possible to climb out the skylight and sit on the roof, which is where I spent most of my evenings during the summer months.

Yeah, that's bound to have a significant effect. Being an old (and previously draughty house), ours is not only insulated up the wazoo, but its hugely thick walls soak up the sun (which the house gets baked in all day) and store heat, almost like solar panels...
Honestly, on blistering hot days like this, as soon as you start climbing the stairs up to the bedroom, you can feel the heat hit you in the face! :eek:

Just had the PC apart. The processor heatsink was rather fluffy. Blew everything clean and the PC runs silently now. The hot weather must have exacerbated things. (had to find the 'case opened' warning in bios and clear that too :)).
I've just measured 32.5°C, on our front lawn! :eek: Bloody ridiculous, for the middle of the UK... :mental:
Anyway, time for lunch!
Today, we're starting with some local oak-smoked salmon, marinated in a selection of Thai spices, served with a lightly-dressed salad of samphire and chicory, followed by barbecued veal T-bone chops (deeply infused with fresh garlic and rosemary, from our garden), and some bacon ribs, which will be drizzled in a light-red wine gravy, served with some fresh spinach, peas, buttered asparagus, baby carrots/cauliflower and some pommes fondant.
Dessert is a home-made Tiramisu.
Drinkies will be, starting with aperitifs of chilled Aperol spritzers, followed by a Pinot Gris (from Luxembourg), to accompany the salmon, and a lovely Barolo Riserva Speciale, from 1995, which I'd been saving, for the veal chops. The dessert wine is a superb (aged) Vin Santo.
Don't expect to see me back here, folks, for at least three hours! :cheers:

Not quite so hot here. I'm attempting to built a 5m length of dry stone wall. Digging trench and moving stone from one part of the garden to another is proving a bit too much in this heat. Doing a couple of hours each day before 10am is about as much as my old body can manage. Still, over half way there.

I like dry stone walling. It's a knack.
I've done most of the necessary masonry work in my garden (paving repairs). Trouble is, I've a garage I need to rebuild/enlarge now and need a couple of weeks of moderate, dry weather to achieve this. Can't do it in heat or rain.

You also need to remember that the houses are built differently here, so the hous is very unlikely to get above 26 degrees.
I don't particularly like the heat, but as long as you stay indoors during the hottest times it is perfectly manageable.
I am thinking of installing a basic water mist spraying system on the terrace if it keeps this up though.

Yes, but unless the pool is enclosed under a roof, you've still got the sun blazing down on you, so no matter how 'cool' I felt in the water, I still wouldn't want to be sat there, exposed to (undoubtedly) unhealthy 38-degree heat, which is why I generally don't 'do' pools, and avoid beach resorts and very hot countries like the plague.
You really need to be a sun worshipper, to enjoy using a pool in the summer months, especially in somewhere such as the south of France - and I'm far from that.
Point taken about the houses being different, which I fully accept. It was the same with our house in Italy, which had marble floors (no carpets) and wooden window shutters throughout, to keep the sun out during the day, so therefore it was always be about 15 degrees cooler in there, than it was outside :)
26 degrees, inside our house here, however, which has very much been optimised for use in much cooler climates, would be [and is] decidedly uncomfortable.

Poor old pooch is really not enjoying it. I hosed him down with the garden sprayer yesterday. He loved that! :) I'll do it again shortly.

It's out of direct sunlight.
Like Martin's had, we had a few drops of rain here about an hour and a half ago, but still pretty humid (made more bearable with a nice electric fan blowing cool air on me as I type), with the temp currently sitting at 29°C.
Not as hot as it was here on Sunday, which was the warmest we've ever had, so unlike down south, today is not the hottest day on record. Still waiting for that lovely thunderstorm, to help clear the air - hopefully it'll be along soon!

How nice to get a day when the first thing on one's mind is not the heat. It's a comparatively comfortable 24C out there at the moment, but a bit humid. Looks like it could rain though, that may clear the air further.

The ideal for me is between 20-26°C (max). As soon as the temperature creeps near 30°C (or over), I struggle, especially at night in the type of house we live in.
Thing is, we NEVER have the heating on in our bedroom, even in the depths of winter, simply because we hate the type of stuffy/dry atmosphere, generated by central heating systems. We put a winter-weight duvet on the bed, and use an electric blanket, when it's really cold, keeping us nice and toasty in bed, but with the air around us cool.
So to come upstairs to a really stuffy room, which feels like an oven (somewhat akin to the effect of having had a radiator switched on full for hours, with the doors and windows shut), is completely alien to us, and just HORRIBLE! :rolleyes:
