** Now Provisionally sold...awaiting collection **

I am selling my pair of 300b SETs. They are transformer coupled power amplifiers built by Nick Gorham of Longdog Audio to this design:

http://www.woundcomponents.co.uk/300b-docs/se002.pdf

I believe the design was originally by Gary Dews of Border Patrol.

The transformers are from Wound Components. They produce 8W so need sensitive speakers, I am using Impulse H2’s. The mid-range is amazingly sweet. Like many valve amplifiers there is some mechanical hum, but this is well controlled by a couple of thick rubber mats which I will include in the sale.

The valves are:- Electro-Harmonix Gold 300B, and Sovtek 5AR4 & 6C45P1

I am guessing a little, but I think the valves have had just over 1000 hours use.

I am looking to get back what I paid for these units which was £850 for the pair. Cash on collection only.

I live near Watford, Hertfordshire. Happy to demo these lovely power amplifiers.

They look like a bargain for someone wanting to try the lovely 300b sound. I now use a 300b amp and there really is 'something' special about it

Oh wow yes, whether single ended or push pull, that 300B sound is divine.

These do look very similar to my Border Patrol SET amp (all be it that mine is not a mono block design)...if they sound anything like mine, these have got to be a bargain.
The only thing I'd say is that the Border Patrols do have a separate Power Supply, but at the price you're asking still looks good!
Good Luck with the sale.
Gary Dews is a real expert with valve amplification.

Monday morning bump! Surely at this price there will be someone wanting to give these beautiful 300Bs a spin?

Thought these would be snapped up...Paul who commissioned these told me the transformers alone cost more than the asking price! Bargain for someone wanting a couple of nice wooden clad 300Bs.

Great looking (and no doubt sounding) amp.
Nick really knows his valve onions.

The 300B poweramp he built for me will see me through to my pine box.
Nick's stuff is as good as it gets, valve amp wise.

Good luck with the sale Fella.

If I had not just got a 45 valve amp I would have been very interested. I have sent you a pm on something you mentioned in the advert.
Cheers Chris

It's not the best time of year to sell kit...but it's a great time to buy. It gets better from Sept.

Would these work with my new celestion A3s? I suspect not.

I don't know the A3's. Will obviously depend how loud you like to go, and their sensitivity/Impedance at various frequencies. My problem is my Impulse H2's have a serious drop in impedance at around 800Hz, which for these SET amps proved too much. I think the A3's are 92dB per watt sensitivity so if you are not looking for very loud they could match? What do you run currently?

I think the celestions have a dip too. Currently using a 1000wpc class d amp!

Could you or Paul confirm when Nick built these please.

Hi Andy.

I'm the bloke who bought your Glasshouse.

Nick built these for me in 2012 after I'd heard your Glasshouse and come to the conclusion I'd never find a used one... I've all the correspondence with him that I can send to interested parties. Please PM me.

Paul

Thanks, Lawrence
