I just hope they don't end up completely f---ed; it's so sad a company that came from Quaker roots, should end up a pawn in some multi-national buyout. What's the betting in 15 years 'Cadbury' is just a product name with no real presence in the UK :(

If Cadbury were/are so successful why sell out to Kraft ? Answer Greed..the chairman walks away with £12,000,000 and the board/share holders do well too. F*** the workers and the company history.

very true , theres a lot of anger here in the midlands and some of my neiighbours who work for cadburys will be very worried . look what happened to other chocolate factories that have been taken over . now empty

Terry's up here in York was another sad old buyout by the same company, Kraft. All they wanted was the name. Now, Terry's chocolate orange is made in Poland rather than York where the whole factory is an empty shell.

I used to work for a Swiss chemical company, Ciba Geigy who merged with another Swiss company Sandoz. We were assured it wasn't a buyout but of course it was. All Sandoz wanted were our processes. They then spun off half the company to form Syngenta and then moved production to China. We all ended up on the dole as we wouldn't work for a bag of rice. The company saved eight million pounds a year as they no longer had to treat effluent going into British rivers. In China the shit goes straight into the water. Then the government have the gall to try and make us feel guilty about the environment and global warming.

The same for Rowntree Macintosh in Norwich, at one point one of the City's biggest employers, bought by Nestlé and now the site of the latest shopping centre after the factory was closed, sold and demolished... :(

And near-nationalised RBS are providing funding for this project which will end up putting UK workers on the dole. I can bet UKFI (the governments Financial Services management company, controlling RBS) is ecstatic at the fact they've been able to negotiate the business too. Their primary interest is recouping the bail-out funds in the shortest time possible. The whole thing stinks.

Life's going to be hard for 'chocoholics'; they (and everyone else) ought to be boycotting Nestlé-Rowntree, and that's everything that Nestlé make!

When I were a lad it was 'Nestles' not 'nestel-lay' even in their own adverts - 'Nestles' milky Bar' went the jingle, did it not? So what happened there?

Their choclate is awful stuff with very high sugar and very low cocoa content and all of the old Rowntree stuff I used to like is now rendered inedible as a result (especially Yorkie bars whose original USP was that they had a higher cocoa content than other bars).

Unfortunately for me I cannot eat milk chocolate but can eat very dark chocolate and that dreadful white stuff. Milk chocolate provides me with a serious bout of visual disturbances and dizzyness/giddiness. I get some powerful flashing lights in my eyes and tunnel vision so have to avoid it. I found out a few years ago when it happened whilst I was driving to Darlington. Yes, it could have been the prospect of driving to Darlington but my GP disagreed. I have now not eaten milk chocolate for about four years.
