Help needed chaps.

Apart from pivot to spindle distance, what other figures do I enter
For a mission 774.
For the life of me I can't get the effective length of 229mm as in the
Manual.

There is clearly an error in the manual for the 774.

If the effective length is 229mm, and the pivot-to-spindle is 215.4 as shown on the sketch in the manual, then the overhang is only 13.6mm, well less than that for a Stevenson alignment.

If you assume that the offset angle is 23.5 deg, about right for Lofgren A on a 229mm arm, then a pivot-to-spindle of 215.4 gives you one null point at about 140mm radius, and a distortion peak of 2.5%.

It will be worth trying to measure the offset angle (I can't find it specified anywhere), and then look at alignments with that offset and 215.4mm pivot-to-spindle.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Tried your suggestion Jamie, the best i can get is the Stevenson A settings which give
the effective length as 231.258 and an overhang of 15.858.

Don't know if there is an error in the manual Angus, but it's bloody frustrating.:confused:

why not just go with the 215.4 mounting distance that seems to be right judging by the web and move the arm back or forth to get your alignment dialed in,in my way of thinking the effective length will be different depending on what cartridge you use so it cant be set in stone,the mounting distance however is.

Well that's just confused me even more, thanks tho.

Are you also saying I could use a 12" wand and not have to change the
mounting distance? Am using the tonearm on a Tosh sr370 by the way.
