... preferably with remote control volume! (A bit of an ask, that bit ;)).

WHY?
-- What Have You? -- it took me AGES to figure out that TLA!

Cash or maybe swaps for some of my lovely vintage amps possible.

Doubt there are many around Jerry.. maybe a creek. they did one I think not sure the model

True.
I've had a Creek. It wasn't bad. Not brilliant, though.

Another criterion is that, boxswapper as I am, I want one that I haven't had before! :D

Remote not essential. ;)

I don't normally reply to the 'WHY?' phrase :donk: but I have a Rotel Michi I could be tempted to let go for the asking.

You don't like TLAs?

Hmm ... that Rotel does look yummy and I do remember it from back in the day.
Can you post a photo of the remote control handset, please.
(Only kidding ;))

I'll see what else comes along and may drop you a line re: possible swapsies, Josie

Anyway...there's a Stevens and Billington passive on PFM (Music First) :)

What's a TLA Jerry?

A Three Letter Acronym.
:D

A bit self referential, that!

Ta - I'll have a look on PFM.

so might help to know jerry what you have had before . I know you had a massive tisbury loan scheme once so I won`t mention that one !!

mfa gets my vote , there is a scruffy one on hififorsale but the mrk 2 copper is yummee

so might help to know jerry what you have had before .

I've had lots of passives including several TVCs.

To be honest, I'd rather not constrain offers just in case I think "hmm, I'd quite like to try that again!". :)

I have this Firestone MASS preamp, it's not passive but it does have a remote:

Thanks Alan - a non-compliant bid, eh! -- always interesting. :)

It does look sweet and some good vibes about it from t'interweb.
I'll have a ponder if I may.

OK - thanks to all the folks who responded.

I have taken a slightly different route and decided to see if I can get even more performance out of my current pre (Philips Black Tulip 270).

It's all Alan Firebottle's fault, so blame him ....

- Curious about the Firestone active pre that he offered I Googled to find any available info
- a link came up for an Ebay listing by the Emporium for the same pre but with a fancy PSU
- one of the "you may also be interested in" listings that eBay put up was for an Arcaydis Interface impedance matching widget, reviewed here (https://issuu.com/gerry666/docs/hifiworld_june_2007/27)
- coo, interesting, I thought and put in a low-ball offer .... which was accepted.

- so, I'll stay with my current pre for the nonce and see if the Arcaydis widget can squeeze even more juice out of it.

As I say, blame Alan Firebottle. :spank:

Some people just can't be bothered to read posts properly. ;)

Linky again just for Grant :) "Arcaydis Interface impedance matching widget, reviewed here (https://issuu.com/gerry666/docs/hifiworld_june_2007/27)"

Ah, right. :sorry:
I'm on my laptop - so I can click on the image and expand it. I couldn't read it otherwise, either.

It's an impedance matching device, so presents the source component with a very easy load. :exactly: Or something like that. :eyebrows:

I'll put it betwixt my pre and power amps.

Cheers Mate. a bit like a buffer then I imagine.

I bought that and returned it. The PSU looked like it had been replaced with a new one and the plug cut off the old one. See what you think it might be acceptable to you. The thing I didn't like was it looked like there might have originally been 3 wires but the new one had 2.

What? - the Arcaydis buffer?

OK - I'll see what it looks like and how it does.

I still regret not picking this up when I had the chance. So beautifully made, inside and out.

I have, probably the simplest pre amp of all time but its fantastic. It doesn't do anything that I can hear so I love it. Cost maybe £50 all in for parts and a few beer tokens to Firebottle to assemble it and fabricate the box. . Alps blue, 16awg silver plated wire, Alu case and knobs. Simple. I'd recommend one in a heartbeat.

It's truly amazing. I'm so surprised with the sound and then energy of the music. It's on a par with my uber croft for sure.

Thanks Phil - but I'll be trying the previously mentioned Arcaydis Interface impedance buffer to see if I can squeeze even better sound out of my current pre.
It's scheduled to arrive Tuesday.
