on line auction bidding cock up

i spotted a pair of yamaha ns-1000m speakers listed in auction and bid £400 on them via the saleroom.com.
i was watching the auction live on my mobile and when the bidding passed my £400 i thought id have 1 more bid,trouble is it keep saying 'your the highest bidder'! the auction ended i won them for £500,the total including buyers comission comes to £608 :eek:

my worry is i didnt bid £500! im going to contact the saleroom.com tomorrow and explain,have i got any chance?

Usually go for £1000 plus so what's the worry lol.

If you didn't bid £500 why do they think you did?

I'm guessing it is not like an eBay auction where you can bid £500 and pay only £1 more than the last highest bid. It is a proper auction so you bid £500 that us what you pay even if the previous bid was only £401

Your bid is a contract so if you don't pay they can take civil action to recover the debt.

On the plus side if they are working fine you got a huge bargain.

Salerooms are dangerous places;even online. You have to be very strict with yourself and not go above your level. If you were typing in a value quickly you could have pressed 5 instead of 4 i guess.
as to the driver being blown, I ont know if they are available. Only plus is others were prepared to pay close to what you did so they are probably still a decent buy if you source a driver

Check the magnets on the woofers mate if you do get them as Yamaha used an inferior adhesive on the magnets so they become dislodged and even fall off .

as far as i know grant they are in full working order but not tested,my worry is i get them back and all the drivers are buggered but id have to be very very unlucky for that to happen,fingers crossed,touch wood!

i phoned up the company that handles the online bidding and they say i did bid £500,it would appear i did indeed do as you said and type the 5 instead of the 4! :doh:

i might chuck the supex sd-900 super cartridge on the bay to soften the blow :)
