So a late night at the office, back at home and the family is out, so a super-quiet evening. Each time I switch tabs in my browser, perform tasks etc. I hear some noise like when a hard drive moves (except my laptop is solid state), which I eventually narrowed down from paranoia to a lamp plugged into the same outlet at my laptop charger, which together were doing some weird modulation that amplified the processing noises of my laptop so that I could hear it. Very clearly when I opened documents and did stuff it was heard on the plug socket! EDIT: nope, can still hear it with the lamp off.

I should have just gotten an official charger to replace my old one, or my wiring around that outlet is knackered, maybe random circumstance, but it does make you think.

I am amazed at some of the noises I get from things, particularly my PC; as I turn my head I get odd harmonics from what can only be its fan or HD.

I have a very low tolerance for extraneous noise, when I am trying to listen to music. Transformer hum, mechanism noise, fans, all ruin it. I have got rid of equipment because of it: Esoteric P3 ridiculous amount of noise while spinning a CD/SACD, T&A V10 fan noise, and all my computers are as far away from the listening chair as I can get them, including HDs behind racks etc. I suspect the Sony HAP Z1 will also go soon, as its a noisy sod at times.

I do have two Dacs that suffer from transformer hum sometimes and I am hoping a DC blocker will solve that.
