I have been using Spotify to check out material before I buy and very nice it is to use indeed, however I only listen to the free version which downloads at 160kbps. Premium service is 320kbps I think.

Has anyone heard the Premium bit rate and is a worthwhile upgrade?

James , I use Spotify premium . I went back to the free service a few weeks ago and found there was a marked difference ( degradation ) in SQ . I went back to premium very soon afterwards :)

Yes i use premium too. Its got to be switched manually to high remember but its better than low. In fact on much of music its hard to distinguish between 320 and flac

Great that answers my question. Also get the benefit of no adverts!

Brian are you using Roon yet? I know Gaz is and is a big fan. If and when I go digital this is the software I will use.

Another advantage of Premium is that you can download files to listen offline. Great when travelling or overseas!

I had it for a couple of weeks James . Better SQ and much more information . If you like studying album covers and the booklets etc. which come with your purchases this will be perfect for you .
Spotify is much simpler and easier to use IMO . Perfect for me :D

The other problem is Roon is expensive . https://roonlabs.com/pricing.html
Plus £20 / month for Tidal .
