I'm looking to buy a new cartridge for my VPI Scout as my current Ortofon's cantilever on inspection seems a little twisted, yet still sounds fine. Its about 13 yrs old.

As I spin mostly vintage 70's Jamaican Vinyl, most of it mint but some suffering from poor pressing I need a needle that wont emphasis surface noise too much.

The 25FL was good in this respect, so I'm thinking of trading in for a Quintet Bronze.

Now I know for the same money I could get an M2 Black which comes highly recommended but I'm concerned that it may be unforgiving?

I'll get £95 back on the trade in with the M25FL but as far as I know this only applies if buying another MC and not an MM.

Any thoughts?

The amount you get back against another Ortofon mc is limited to a maximum % of the new cart value and is not a fixed amount.

I find the 2m black fine on old vinyl and not prone to magnifying surface noise. I also like the Quintet blue if you want to stick with mc and use the exchange deal. Try Ian Harrison HiFi first for a price

Has anyone heard the Quintet Bronze.

I'm wondering if it is similar to the MC25FL as it uses the same tip?

Rondo Bronze?

Very good with surface noise, read the Stereophile review: https://www.stereophile.com/content/ortofon-rondo-bronze-mc-phono-cartridge-page-2

Still available at Thakker:

Though getting pricey.
